Hey Trip,

Since I'm out of commision the next few days you can go ahead and install that in my truck! Mike L. said you wouldn't mind since he let you test that new cooler for him.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

The install isn't really that bad. I disconnected the steering from the spindles, pitman and idler arms, Then removed the steering as an assembly. That gave me room to drop the front diff. Disconnect some wires, the flanges for the axles two bolts and it comes right out.

I took it to a friend of mine that does a lot of diff. work for the actual carrier replacement/gear setup.

Sorry to hear your out of commission. Get well soon!

its a hell of alot easier to drop the front diff out if the truck is lifted, well with any kit but the skyjacker kit (I think its the only one that allows you to turn the truck back to stock) all the other kits you cut off the lower mounting tab on the frame. Like with my truck I coud just take off the front tires and unbolt the CV's, then its just 4 bolts and it will drop right out!

It is an Eaton Electronic locking differential.
Purchased from Randy's Ring and Pinion.

tell me i am not sure if this is right, is the rear differantial already have the e locker installed, as i read on the gmc site, becaues when i hot break only one tire squeals, this is what the gmc site said for the g80 locker
<TABLE class=bpTable cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=optionHd colSpan=2>LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL, REAR</TD><TD class=optionCellRT> </TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD class=optionCellLT><INPUT disabled onclick=javascript:submitOptions(this); type=checkbox CHECKED value=G80 name=selectedOptions></TD><TD class=optionCellCT>Differential, automatic, locking, heavy-duty, rear (G80) </TD><TD class=optionCellRT><NOBR>$0.00</NOBR></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

maybe i have a  problem then with it

Nice to not have to worry about the pinion depth with this mod. The threaded adjusters on the carrier bearings make doing this job a piece of cake.

While we're on the topic of lockers, for whatever reason my off the lot doesn't have the G80. This is something I miss and plan in the near future to add.

So since I'm planning on replacing it, I may also consider a 3.42 rear end. So if I regear the rear end, being a 4x4, do i need to change something in the front as well or maybe the transfer case???

so anybody know about your 60 feet times and 1/4, will you be able to have higher boost launches with the locker

FredW,
Mtomac is the guy that can answer this question better than I. Previously he has indicated that on a good hooking track, he would not use the E-locker.

Victory Red,
If you change the gearing in the rear, change the front to match. I wouldn't install a G-80 in the rear if my truck didn't have one. A few have broken the G-80s and gone with "Detroit" lockers or "True Tracs". http://www.tractech.com/Products.htm

Aaron420,
Yes $600.00 US.

when i did my install i just unhooked the pitman arm from the center link and i was able to drop mine out. kinda tight. but i didnt feel like beatin the idler arm loose too. but all in all its a fairly simple install
