I have a 2001 with 67000 miles. Just got home from a 3500 mile trip, S.C. up I77 to MIlford, Pa. then to Boston,Ma. , on to Owen Sound, Ont. , and then straight south to Columbia, S.C.. I pull a 30Ft Arctic Fox trailer, about 9000 lbs. Four times on this trip the pulling power of the engine seemed to go into idle and the check engine light would come on. I could move but very slowly 20-30 mph but there was no shifting of gears. Each of these occurrences ended with a stop at the nearest safe spot. After 30 minutes or so, I would start up and the machine would function perfectly. The check engine light would eventually go off. I would appreciate any helpful comments from owners having similar problems and what corrective action was taken.

oldfort,

My truck had the same problems, starting at 40K. At first, the truck would loose at least 1/2 it's power all of a sudden, usually pulling a hill, and SES light. The power would come back on its own after slowing to 20-30 mph, in a mile or two. I checked for air in the fuel, fuel filter condition, (I replace 6 filters in 10k miles, cutting them open, checking for restictions) and never found anything that lead to a simple answer. I even installed a lift pump and primary filter, that didn't help the problem. By the time I hit 50k on the truck, it finally left me stranded once. GM replaced the Injection pump, and things have been good ever since. I have the lift pump and a second filter still installed.

My suggestion is to check your fuel filter, and then have your dealer read for codes in the computer.

Check for stored codes. It may be just simply overboost. Have you just gotten the trailer? Have you had the truck since it was new?
