: CoPilot Controller Location?

I was wondering if any of you copilot owners have come up with a better place to mount the controller than on the kick panel. The sticky side of the velcro that ATS used to mount it there has gotten too many knee knocks getting in and out and after my trip to the mechanic it is no longer attached.

I didnt really like it on the kick panel anyway, and was thinking of putting it in one of the storage holes in the center of the dash. Anyone had any experience doing this? I've tried searching for a couple of days but havnt found much.

Thanks for the info in advance,

Jason

Someone posted a picture of the Co-Pilot in the storage tray. It looks good there. Mine is under the dash with one big strip of Velcro on the Co-Pilot and three skinny strips on the dash, this helps make up for the contour of the dash vs the straight back of the Co-Pilot.

If you move it to the center of the dash, you will need to extend the wires on it. Looks good there. Not as easy to remove however if the occasion should arise.

The way it looked to me last night when I was trying to move it to the middle is that the only wires that need extended are the ones that override my speed governor. I think I'll just get either a couple butt-connectors and some shrink wrap or else a couple more spade fittings like they used to do the override. My only other question is, should the wires to the copilot go behind or in front of the brake pedal arm? I think it makes more sense to go in front so it doesnt ever get pinched, but thats just my thought...

Thanks again,

Jason

I seem to recall that your CoPilot was mounted on top of my foot last time I drove your truck.

Mine was located on top of my foot for about two seconds. GRRRR! One side of the velcro tape is super glue and the other side is bubblegum. I ended up putting it into the little cubby hole below the center dash vent. It doesnt fit exactly into it but with good layout and a dremel tool you can make it look good. I ended up running the wires through a hole I drilled where(i think) the clutch linkage normally comes through the firewall a little of the right of the turbo.

That industrial strength velcro will hold anything. I can hardly remove my VA with that stuff. I thought the co-pilot looked good in Los Lobos' spot.

Any pictures? I was thinking of going in the empty hole above the beverage holders and the first flip-open compartment.

Thanks VFR, thats the post I had been looking for. How did you get your wiring long enough to reach there? Also, I have my Pass. side air bag switch in the place you mounted yours. Do you think it'll still fit then? (I dont know how much the switch sticks up above the markings)

The wiring was long enough, I had to fish the wires behind the radio and stack. I used a coathanger as a guide, taped the wires to the end and ran it through until I could see it under the dash and grab it. It was a tight fit, had to try a couple of different routes, but all it took was a few trys. I'm not sure how the pass air bag switch is wired up, I'd pull it out and have a looksee. The copilot takes up about 1/2 of the cubby up front, but it takes up most of the space at the back since the cubby tapers. I put my garage door opener in it, it fits perfect above the copilot. If your airbag switch uses a different insert in the cubby, you could get a stock one like mine from a dealer and custom fab it to fit both the switch and the copilot I would think.

Good luck
