Can someone give me a 101 on why the orifice in the BMK11 is so small on the return...

I assume to maintain pressure.
I have my return going to the oil fill cap, it's a steady stream and moves a lot of oil. One wouldn't think it would with such a small orifice.

Yes, it's for pressure, can only go so fast thru that media.

It doesn't filter oil at the same rate as the factory filter.

If you removed the oriface you would have every little oil going where its suppose to go. Also it can rob enough oil to cause low pressure. The hole is .032 but when you look at how much comes out when at idle you would sware it was way bigger.

The by-pass filter is much finer than the regular filter, hence the small hole which regulates how much oil can go through during operations. Even so, Amsoil claims all the oil gets filtered through the by-pass in about 40 minutes of driving.
