I am interested in the field of working in diesels and trucks. I was wondering what all you technicians went through to become one? I am just trying to get on the right path as I am still young, young enough to be in HighSchool. So any info on what colleges and places to become a certified GM tech would be highly appreciated? THANKS

bowtie, read, study, understand.

LOL

Try and get some employment at a dealer that does alot of trucks, get in the door, then move yourself up by gaining all the knowledge you can. Participate in the GM training program and that will help with your knowledge. I dunno what phase of your education your in, but some like the tech school route. I personally did no college, I couldnt wait to get out of High School and I sure as H wasnt gonna pay to go to school. Got in the dealer shortly after graduation, been here ever sincehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

Maintain a good work ethic, be honest and straight forward, dont learn the typical dealer practices of deception and that BS. Ask questions when needed, there is no stupid question.

As for college recomendations, depends on whats in your area, or you could look at places like UTI, Ferris, Nashville auto/diesel, WYO-tech, or similer.

As for getting GM certified, that comes with the training. You take tests based on your skill levels and knowledge. Also persue getting your ASE certs.
