: LB7 EGR Defeat Circuit
Fingers 10-06-2004, 06:01 PM Here is a schematic for a circuit that I think will help the vacume EGR
on the LB7's. It differs a little from the one being used on the
LLY's. Who want to build it?

WanaDmxsub 10-06-2004, 11:38 PM Nobody???
Fingers, If your willing to make one, I'll buy it, install it on my truck and report back on how it does. Got any more of those blocking plates?
wickedpsi 10-07-2004, 01:05 AM im willing to buy one to test out too if you build it
ShumDit 10-07-2004, 03:02 AM Count me in as another interested ~
Max Payne 10-07-2004, 10:11 AM Package it with a block-off plate and consider quite a few soldhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif
chuntag95 10-07-2004, 10:54 AM I'll go ahead and let my dumb hand out here.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif What are the benifits and why do we want to do this? Second, where is the EGR? Can someone post a picture?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif Are they only on some years?
svpdiesel 10-07-2004, 10:57 AM Fingers, I too would be interested if you get it built.
Fingers 10-07-2004, 12:03 PM I'll go ahead and let my dumb hand out here.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif What are the benifits and why do we want to do this? The later California LB7's had a vacuum actuated EGR system. If they
disable the EGR they get codes. Some people get codes if they just go
to a less restrictive exhaust. This circuit should adjust the MAF
signal enough to prevent codes in a way similar to what was done on the
LLY's.
I don't own a LB7 with EGR and have no way of testing it. I put this
out there for anyone who is interested. I have no interest in building
it myself. I would think SOMEONE in California would have the talent.
Terrain Twister 10-07-2004, 12:13 PM Fingers,
If I could get a cleaner parts copy emailed to me I'll do it. I'll PM you my email address.
I'll have to look up the blocking plate.
donmiller714 10-07-2004, 12:43 PM I'll try it too -- but I'd like to get some plugs to do it with (I'm not really interested in cutting into wires)
Terrain Twister 10-07-2004, 02:45 PM Thanks Fingers,
Got a clean copy and will start looking for parts as soon as I can. I might be a few days though, as I'm having knee surgery tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted.

WanaDmxsub 10-07-2004, 11:51 PM Fingers,
Understand, Thanks for providing the drawings.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif
donmiller714 and Terrain Twister,
If I can help let me know.
Terrain Twister,
Had my ACL replaced...20 years ago. This will be a good project for you while your sitting in the recliner with your knee elevated.
Terrain Twister 10-16-2004, 11:14 PM Sorry for the delay everyone. I'm moving around again so I'll try to start looking up the parts tomorrow and get started.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif I'll also be looking at getting my hands on some GM type connectors to make it look factory and post pictures as soon as I can. If you don't see me post in the next 3-4 days, start hounding me!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
WanaDmxsub 10-17-2004, 12:29 AM Good to see you back. Hope all went well with the knee.
Elowe65 10-17-2004, 02:55 AM Just picked up the parts yesterday, tomorrow I will be soldering them up. If anyone comes up with some connectors, let me know...
Once again, thanks for the drawing Fingers!!!!!!!
Terrain Twister 10-17-2004, 01:26 PM What's one more 11"-12" scar!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
Knee went well, thanks for asking.
Gotta go get some parts now.
Can't let Elowe65 beat me to the fun!!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
Fingers 10-17-2004, 11:13 PM Hope I got the resistor values close............

Terrain Twister 10-18-2004, 03:03 PM Fingers,
Are we looking for a LM258 or LM358? I noticed the BMP is labeld as 258.
Fingers 10-18-2004, 03:38 PM LM258 is the better chip with greater temp range. They are functionally the same.
WanaDmxsub 10-22-2004, 10:25 AM If you don't see me post in the next 3-4 days, start hounding me!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Terrain Twister 10-26-2004, 01:11 AM Sorry guys, I open my mouth and it hits the fan around home!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif I'll try to gets the parts tommorrow and get to it.
caroftheweek 10-28-2004, 12:41 PM sign me up...if anyone decides to make one, let me know. I live in CA and have an '01 LB7. Routing dirty exhaust and soot back into the intake never sounded like a good idea to me...especially if you are running a power adder that creates even more soot turning the engine oil into a black, sooty mess.

Terrain Twister 10-31-2004, 02:35 PM Thanks Fingers, You the man!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif
LA DMAX 10-31-2004, 03:38 PM caroftheweek,
You might be lucky because I don't think the 01's had an EGR or a CAT. That came out for us unlucky ones on the 02 and newer model LB7's. Thanks to all who are attempting this feat. Hope it works, I don't want to recirculate soot back into my engine.

painter 11-03-2004, 01:11 AM i got a cali 03, I WANT 1 of these and the block off plate. then gut the kitty and leave it there for the service writer to look at.
WanaDmxsub 11-03-2004, 10:11 AM It's not the service writer that you should be concerned about. It's the smog police, and gutting out the cat will not help. My guess, is that if we ever have to pass a smog test in CA it will be a lot like the gas test is now. I would just remove the cat and save it,http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif just incase.
painter 11-03-2004, 03:36 PM hadn't thought of that. how many states have a sniffer type smog test? i lost injectors 1 time so now i think about warranty altho they did not give me any problems. just don't want to give them a reason to deny warranty work. those injectors are expensive.
LA DMAX 11-03-2004, 10:41 PM With the block off plate and circuit thingy, would a tech be able to notice that stuff? Sometimes the dealer can be cool and let all smog stuff go and sometimes they can void all your stuff if they want. Thanks
LA DMAX
ShumDit 11-04-2004, 12:19 AM Personally, don't think the tech has a dog in the fight ~ he shouldn't care as its be demonstrated as not causing a mech issue. BUT, should CARB someday start doing smog inspections ~ they are the ones to fear. Thats why we hang onto the stuff we remove and be prepared to unmodify that which we have done.
