hey guys, found out the hard way- but dont order the intergrated brake control on the 2007s if you have electric over hydrolic trailer brakes (like my 2006 Heritage 30' boat trailer)...it wont work. I am having the new Tekonsha P3 controller installed ILO the factory controller at a cost of 300 bones and chevy is picking up the tab.

Subject: Procedure for Installation of an Aftermarket Trailer Brake Controller in Lieu of Factory Installed Integrated Trailer Brake Controller #07-08-45-001 - (05/16/2007)

Models: 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

2007 GMC Sierra

with Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (RPO JL1)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some vehicle owners may request to have an aftermarket trailer brake controller added, in lieu of the factory Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (ITBC) RPO JL1. This request may be made if the trailer being towed is equipped with electric over hydraulic brakes. This style of trailer brake system is not supported by the ITBC. An aftermarket trailer brake controller may be installed to operate with the electric over hydraulic brakes, however the factory installed ITBC system will be disabled.

Installation Instructions
To install an aftermarket trailer brake controller, use the four blunt cut wires located near the data link connector. Make the following changes to the vehicle harness:

Four Blunt Cut Wires

Dark Blue
Circuit 47
Brake Signal to Trailer Connector

Red/Black
Circuit 242
Battery Power

Light Blue/White
Circuit 6311
Brake Switch Input

White
Circuit 22
Ground

The Red/Black wire, circuit 242, must be connected to stud #2 of the 30 Amp fuse of the Underhood Fuse Block. This wire is located between the left fender and the Underhood Fuse Block.
Locate connector X126 near the Underhood Fuse Block (Refer to SI Document ID# 1849049). Circuit 47 from the blunt cut wires near the data link connector will end at connector X126 terminal "G". Obtain enough Dark Blue 12 gauge wire to run from X126 to the 7-way trailer connector at the bumper. On one end of the Dark Blue wire attach terminal part number 15304732, located in Delphi Tray 8 and insert into X126 "G". Run the Dark Blue wire in its own conduit along the frame to the 7-way trailer connector at the bumper. Remove circuit 47 from the 7-way trailer connector terminal "C" and tape the bare terminal and attach to the harness. Attach terminal part number 12110853, located in Delphi Tray 4, to the other end of the Dark Blue wire and insert it into the 7-way trailer connector terminal "C".
Important: This procedure will not result in any Trailer Brake related display messages to be set. However, ITBC diagnostics will continue to function. If an ITBC fault is detected, a "Service Trailer Brake System" message will be displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and an appropriate DTC will be stored in the ITBC module. The operator will still be able to adjust gain and access the "Trailer Gain / Output" display page in the DIC. However, the factory installed ITBC system will not sense a trailer connection and will not provide output to the trailer

Ditto here too. The dealer just printed me the prior "FIX".

What about the Chevy 2007 Trailering Guide that states on Page 3, "The controller provides immediate and measured brake force signaling to electric- controlled trailer brake systems. Since it's fully integrated with the vehicle's ABS and electric systems, you don't have to have an external and/or aftermarket brake control system."

They sell you a brake controller for $200 from the factory then say nothing about it not working on electric over hydraulic brakes. Then when you complain they charge you another $300 to install the AFTERMARKET brake controller and DISABLE THE FACTORY INSTALLED BRAKE CONTROLLER.

My truck listed out at 53K and this is how I was treated. The dealer says it's Chevrolet's Problem. Chevrolet won't return my calls. I'm on vacation this week and have to wait until tomorrow to have the dealer "FIX" the problem that Chevrolet created........just wonderful.......I'm extremely disappointed in Chevrolet.

Any others out there? Class Action sounds good to me.

I would ask the dealer since they knew it wouldn't work, why they didn't inform you when you ordered the truck? At the least, they should refund the cost of the factory option.

The dealer general manager says I have to fight it out with GM/Chevy!

Well I fought and got the dealer pay for the P3 and to intall the fix too, as it was not easily done....Now it works , but im getting a default code on the factory display, so back to the dealer i go (3rd time). The dealer knows less than we do about this issue, and I think chevy is just figuring it out as well....to bad for us first guys off the line I guess

At least the dealer is looking after it. I have not tried mine yet, but all my trailers are just electric, so I'm not too worried.

My big problem would be that the dealer wants to charge you 300 bucks to install the P3!!! I just got one, was just under 150 bucks to my door and to my delight, there was a 20 rebate card as well. So, I got the thing for 130 bucks to my door and it takes a whole 5 minutes to install!!!!!!

Electric over hydraulics is a fairly new thing to the trailer world, most are electric or surge. This is really not GM's problem, but a dealer problem, they need to get their heads out of their asses and tell customers that their controller is for electric only, but since th electric/hydraulic system is still relatively new, I really do not expect a salesman to know about these, especially considering they do not know squat about the trucks they sell. Moral of the story, do your homework before you buy because you can't count on the dealer anymore to be of assistance!!!!
