Any alterations to the stock exhaust as far as allowable decimal noise restriction the manufacture is under is illegal. You can receive a defective equipment citation.

Yep, any alterations at all is technically illeagal....It really depends state to state whether or not you get caught/fined for exhaust. With a diesel, you are far less likely to get busted for a straight pipe than you are with a loud gas truck, especially if you have two 4" chrome tips hanging out under the bumper...

Personally, I've been rolling the dice....no snake eyes......yet

Not illegal in Arkansas. You can run any pipe you want here as long as you don't break any laws such as local noise ordinances. We don't have inspections or emissions laws to deal with really either. Does that mean I'm legal in other states since I am at home? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I haven't heard of diesel truck exhaust issues with the authorities. I don't even think about it.

When I was hauling with my 2000 dually,if I got stopped by the DOT for inspection, they never said anything about my exhaust not having a muffler, that is here in Michigan.

I think it varies state by state and county by county...... I have never worried or had trouble in the past...muffler or no muffler. Right now I just have a muffler and make plenty of noise. There is a noise ordinance in effect in my area, but I don't think the cops care...or at least aren't upset enough yet to deal with it.......... Of course how you drive effects the cops' outlook on you too!!

Texas its not illegel, no emmision inspection, the only thing they can get you for here is noise, and thats if the officer is a dick.
