Just wondering if anyone has had much experience with the "new" 6.0 in the 2500HD vs. the old one. Just reading the specs and it looks like they have around 50 more hp. However, I noticed that they make that power at 5400 rpm whereas the old 6.0 was at peak hp at 4400 rpm. I do like the fact with the new 6-speed auto you get a much lower 1st gear. That's my only complaint with my 05 HD, first gear is way to high. Once things get moving it's fine, just takes a while to get there. I'd love to swap the 480LE out for one. Haven't seen too many reviews or opinions on this new set-up yet so I was just curious. I still think GM screwed up the marketing of the 8.1. I think it could've still been around if the dealers weren't so hell-bent on selling the more expensive D-Max. The big block is a proven platform.

I don't think GM or the dealers screwed up the marketing of the big block.... just right now the "fad" vehicle to own is powered by a diesel engine, whoever makes it
How many folks that buy an HD really need an HD? How many of them really need a diesel?
I don't need a HD or a big block anymore, but I don't want to go back into debt to buy what I need
And what I have is what I WANT, which is the way it should be

i personally thought the same about my 06 6.0. stock she seemed kinda doggy but after a few upgrades she goes like a raped ape. if i was smart i woulda opted for the diesel seeings how gas is 3.30 a gallon and diesel is 2.79 and at 11 mpg its getting old filling up at 220 miles to a tank.

I would agree than many HD owners could get by with a 1500. Heck I only need mine the dozen or so times a year I move cattle around. Couldn't pull 15,000 lbs with a 1/2 ton without some real issues (primarily the rear bumper on the ground). Diesels are definatley the fad these days although diesel engines have come a long ways in 10 years. I'd get a D-Max if I could financially justify it, but I only put 10,000 miles a year on the currnet pickup. Although now that gas is much higher than diesel you don't have to drive quite as many miles to justify it. For no more pulling I do I'd rather have the CC 6.0 than a RC D-Max.

Before son turned legal we used to haul his show cows all over Fl, into Ga... bout 12-14 shows a year, CCLB shined for that, now it's sorta overkill(for what I need) but it's a keeper

Thats exactly the way i feel about my truck. These motors would benefit greatly from a lower 1st gear. If i wind it up to 6000rpm in each gear i can do 50mph in first, 83mph in second, and well over 100 in 3rd. Just doesnt seem right for a 4.10 rear end.
