OK here's the deal. Towing about 6,000 lbs on the 45 HP Predator tune. Cruise control set at 65mph in Tow / Haul mode, come up to a slow rolling hill.....motor lugs a little....right before the truck downshifts it "hiccups".....then goes into Limp mode. Pull over and turn the truck off and then restart it and away we go.....SES light goes out......I decide to take it easy and pull out of O/D on any of the remaining hills. Get back home and driving to work the next day and bam it limps again......then again....tranny gets hotter and hotter....I do the pull over and stop restart again and again. Pull the Predator completely and go back to stock and head for the dealer and the problem continues....as I pull into the dealer the tranny is "Over heated" and goes into idle mode. Dealer "rebuilds" the tranny and I pick the truck up a week later, they tell me the only thing they didn't replace was the "solenoid" and that if it limps again bring it back. On the way home...still stock tuning....the first hill I it ...it Limps the tranny again. Back to the dealer they replace the solenoid and all is good until the first time I tow.....guess what ...LIMP LIMP LIMP.....and that is with stock tuning...

Tranny feels like it's slipping all the time when I'm accelerating or pulling a load up a hill and the tranny gets warm fast. So dealer says bring it back and they'll ask GM for an completely new tranny..or do another re-build....or do I save the head ache and just go get a built trans installed? I don't have the time to be screwing with this much longer. Although I did pay for the extended GMPP zero deductable warranty.

I know the argument on here is that GM shouldn't pay for the tranny if I added power but I honestly believe I am one of the few that doesn't abuse the tranny....I run the 65hp tune when empty and tow on the 45 tune. I only tow about 6,000 lbs max and that is only a few times a year.

Any idea what may be causing the problem? Elec? or did the first Re-build not get done correctly?

Thanks,

Chris

See if you can get a code list for the tranny and post it here.

Thanks. I don't have a reader for the tranny only the 0700 that the Predator read...I'll see if the local parts supply has one.

How about a parts list stating what was replaced?

Sounds a lot like the same problem I have had. My tranny is on third factory rebuild from Allison. All paid for by GM with a 2003 stock truck with 80,000.

This last tranny has done the same thing. First started with a load going up a hill trying to shift out of overdrive. Then it started it without a load.

Took it to dealer they checked pan and said everything looked good. They could see where a wire had been replaced but that looked good to them. They cleaned up some things that could have been left from last tranny replacement and called it fixed (all they could do without replacing it again).

It did the same thing on the way home. I then decided it must be a wiring problem. We went through all the wires and found a couple of kinks. Straightened them out and it did not do it no more. Seems like I fixed a problem that has cost GM three + trannies.

Added a chip since then and all is well.
