: Feedback from dealer

I just returned from the local dealer and it turns out I have the latest code on my LLY, but the service tech and the service manager informed me to go ahead and use an additive for the sticking injector issue that causes the knocking sound commonly heard.

He said that in January the additive in the diesel fuel will be removed and everyone will have to use a seperate additive for their motors.

He also said the the LLY motors are a bit noiser than the LB7's because the LLY has external injectors, thus you can hear them more.

Anyways if this helps anyone, great. I am sure most of you already know this stuff.

Briano,

If I am understanding your note, the Service Mgr said your truck already had the most current version of the software before you came in for service, so they did NOT have to reflash the computer.

The last 2004.5 LLY trucks were made around the first part of July, 2004. The current computer upgrade for the 2004.5 LLY came out around Sept. 10th, 2004. There is a note somewhere on the site dicussing the code development efforts taking place during August.

Unless your truck had a reflash after Sept. 10th, 2004, but prior to your current service visit, I do not understand how it could have the "latest code". If your truck does not meet this criteria, you might want to ask the Service Mgr for an explanation.

hmm, interesting.. I got this truck the beginning of August. they hooked up the computer and said it has the latest code unless they don't even have the latest from GM.

the manager and tech both looked up my Vin and also for a PI# (don't know what that is) and didn't come up with anything. I know its not a TSB or is it?

if one of you know the number can you PM me the info?

any help is appreciated

Where are you at briano? There is a PI for this (preliminary information). Sorry I don't have the # here or I would give it to you. Someone else may post it. Look in some of the other posts for the updated calibration. So when you talk to the SM again, just say" I heard that there is a new calibration available for my PCM and I was wondering if you guys could check and see if mine is updated?" (yours is not if you haven't had an update since 9/10/04)

I am located in central texas and I did purchase this truck before september so I don't know why they say it has the updated code already, very strange.

I looked over tons of posts on here, but none showed the PI number, unless I missed it.

if you happen to find it please let me know.

thanks

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.<A name=ss1-1549221><A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1549221&amp;psdid=437&amp;evc=sm#ss1-1549221" target="_blank">

Hey thanks again, I will call the service rep and give him this number since they couldn't find it on their own.

appreciate guys

ok..just off the phone with the service manager.. he looked up that PI# and from what he said..its only a bulletin for internal GM and does not state there is a new code or to flash to a new code. It merely says to look out for these symptoms and try these things to fix them.

otherwise he said they hooked my truck to their computer and hooked it to the GM computer and I have the latest code available.

those of you that got reprogrammed must have the very first LLY's I assume, otherwise I have no clue.

I still have the fuel knock and surge, but not so much the smoke.

anyways, thanks for your help

Did you tell your stealer about the knock and surge?

You have to complain about a problem for this in order to get them to do anything, or at least that's the way they are where I got my truck. I complained of two of the symptoms listed in the bulletin.

My truck had the parking lot surge and the smoke after idleing for a long time, it seems to have fixed the surge. We'll find out about the smoking as it gets colder around here and I let it warm up in the mornings.

actually yes I did..I went in there with valid issues. I had seen all these symptoms just never knew they were related until I read it on here.

the tech that did the work even came out and talked to me, very cool guy.. he even said I had the latest code.

I don't know.. guess its not that big of a deal

Hey briano, I would take it to another dealer and see what they have to say. I really don't see how you could possibly have the new code in there yet.

thanks for the info, and the compliments.

Briano,

I still suspect your Service Mgr may be mistaken.

Here is the thread discussing the development of the new programming.

http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=12600&KW=au gust&PN=0&TPN=1

It is rather long and covers multiple issues. I suggest you start with the note dated Aug 9th from Maynard9089, then go from there.

Based on his series of informative notes and some of the other postings in the thread, it sure appears that the latest flash for the 2004.5 LLY became available around Sept. 10th.

... and it is a nice looking truck!

Briano,

There was a up-date #PIP3129A from 9/16/04.

Try that one.

Briano,

Unless you had a re-flash recently you can't have the most recent version. The flash came out 9/10. I brought my 2005 which I got on 8/30 in on 9/14 for a couple of issues, one being knock. I got it back on 9/21 and among other things they told me, without my asking, that they had done the re-flash.

By the way, I had a knock and the low speed surge. The flash seems to have reduced them but they are still there.

briano,

FWIW, I've had real good luck with my service dept here in San Antonio. Gunn Chevy on I-35, just south of 1604 loop.

you had this update done at this location?

briano, recommend you print this post and take it to the service department. Ask them to look up the specific TSB with you, emphasis on with you! If they perform any work on it find someplace where you can view the work being done, obviously the closer the better. I usually just walk around the building and park myself right outside the bay. My $40k+ truck, I'll watch. JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

you had this update done at this location? No, but their
Service Manager called me out of the blue when the new TSB came out
regarding the A/C fix for our trucks. He remembered me from 8
weeks back, to see if I wanted to try it out.

well believe it or not I did that in the beginning..I printed out the posts that someone pointed out. I even called back with the PI # and he looked it up saying that was only a bulletin.

I am the same way..I actually stood right there by the garage door while my truck was there, but that is with any vehicle of mine..I am very anal about who touches my babies!! lol

I haven't had a chance to go anywhere else, but I will call another dealer and see whats going on.

someone mentioned that fact that its a GMC dealer and not a Chevy dealer... you guys think that would matter??? they still get the code from teh same place right?
