I finally went and drove the lmm crewcab z-71 loaded. A few weeks back I looked and drove a 08 250 but wasn't impressed at all and I've been waiting for these guys here to get the new 2500 in and they did. I love the looks of the truck and the lay out but when I drove it I was surprized on how loud it was inside the cab it almost sounded like they forgot to put the insulation in the firewall I mean it made a lot of noise when I got on it and regular crusing. I would have got in another to see if there was a difference but its the only one they had on the lot. Has anybody else here drove both? I really think there was something missing because my friends 03 is a lot queiter inside. The only real complaint was it was a ruff ride I imagine a few hundred pounds of sand or a load would help a lot. I'm going to stick it out another year and see if they change the suspension over to the 1000 platform then it will be a done deal. I've waited and saved this long I can wait another year or two. I have a 94 GMC with the 350 and I'm up to 312,000 mile on that motor and I plan on going much higher with my new truck. I just have to decide whose front end I like better Chevy or GMC. Anybody heard anymore about the new frame?????

Did you let it warm up? My 06 is kind of loud when you start it up, then it gets quieter as it warms up.

What is the 1000 platform? And what new frame are you talking about?

I find the LMM very quiet almost too quiet. I like to hear the motor. As far as the frame goes yor are riding in a HD pickup. If you want a car by a car. The GM is light years ahead of the competion in ride for HD pickups. Tire pressure also plays a big part in ride too.

I don't want a car but i would like a ride that is as nice as the others if you like getting bounced around in your truck great the ford has a better ride and it's still a truck but I like the GMC better. I just wish the ride was better. I didn't let it warm up very long and it did quite down some after running it. as far as the frame I've been reading that they might go with a coil over suspension and seeing the difference it made in Fords ride I am contemplating waiting. Hopefully they will put some 20's under it too. I'm not a Ford fan my dad buys a new one every two years so I do know a little about them and we have 2500's for our work trucks. I didn't like the last style of the chevys so I waited. I could have bought a Ford anytime. Now their new trucks I love and I will be getting one soon but I am going to see if they change their frames first. I don't understand why they would put out a brand new truck and keep the same frame setup? They did in the 1500's why not the 2500?

There is no "new frame" coming, that's a rumour that won't die. Folks were saying that the '07.5's were getting the same frame as the 800's, and that the '08's would get a whole new frame. Well, the '07.5's already have a new frame, it just happens to be very similar to the one under the 800's, but not identical. I doubt you'll see a new frame again before the next complete redesign, which won't be any time soon. And even then, it still might not change much. As far as the ride goes, it doesn't seem much different than my '05 was. My '05 was a gasser so I can't compare noise levels. My LMM is louder than I had expected, but I like it that way and was hoping I'd be able to hear it, it is a diesel after all. But it's no where near as loud as the Fords or Dodges I've heard (not sure about the 6.7 & 6.4 though). The sound level seems to vary between different LMM's though, some have said they can hardly hear theirs running.

That's interesting to know. Looks like i might have to go back and talk some prices then. I still want to get the gmc and chevy side by side and make my mind up. I was surprised on how much I liked the chevy's front end in person, I couldn't stand the cat eyes of before. I know one thing that thing ran, it will blow by the 08 250 lots of power! I wasn't complaining about the sound I just wasn't expecting it after everything I've read. Now from the outside it's a different story it was VERY quiet. They don't have one anywhere that has all I want on it and they said I would have to order a 08 to get it. I am getting pretty much everything except the moonroof. Nav seems to be the thing no one has and thats something I do want.

He's probably hoping/wishing that the 08' HD series get the same coil-over set up that the 1500 series has.

Hes not the only one.....Only complaint I have of my new truck is the ride. But, I think its as quiet as my 05 F150, which I thought was very quiet and very comfortable, more so than any other truck Ive been in.

That quote is right on. Under this truck is a slightly modified GMT800 platform. No coils, just the usual torsion bars, yet Chevy doesn't mention this in any ads. They won't change this frame/suspension in the future until another total remake. My '02 rides very smoothly (6" lift w/Bilsteins) for an HD, no compaints here. I also wouldn't buy a new LMM when an '06 could be had w/same frame and a great motor w/o the price increase. There are plenty on dealer lots. Gas is out of control so I am holding my wallet to see where it all goes.

As for the new Ford, I drove an F-250 6.4L diesel and it was much quieter than their 6.0 and rode very well. That truck is heavier than the Chevy because it has alot more steel in it's rear "C" channel frame, hence the higher towing weights. I don't like to drive anything that is overtly or unnecessarliy heavy when it's dry. My truck pulls everything I hook up to it so I am not complaining. The '08 Ford did have a nice interior, but doesn't have a 6 spd or tap shift yet. Chevy is still in the game here.

i have own both. and you are right the lmm is louder then the 2007 classic, and they did forget to insulate it. i've have been writing this for awhile already. the lmm is defently louder on the road then the 2007 classic, i can atest to that, i drove the lmm for 1500 miles and return it mostly because the interior seats. i drove 1000 miles strait and my back was killing me. i would buy one again if they work on the nissan seats, the ford dash, the toyota buttons, the list goes on and on.

Well I will have to learn to live with the noise and ride because I've decided to go ahead and get one at the end of Summer. I just like the new body style so much more than the Classic. Do you guys know if the end of the year rebates would apply to a 08 ordered truck? No one has the one I want and I was told they would have to order it and it would be an 08.

My LMM is extremely quite. You can't hear it in the cab, unless you are really trying to.

A little radio and you'd never know you were driving a diesel (on the noise front). My 2006 LBZ is louder but not by much.

My family has some old Ford F???s (multiple different trucks) and its insane how quite mine is compared to theirs.

When I test drove a LMM in March/April I thought it was much quiter than the LLY that I had, but wrote that off to still having a CAT, Muffler, and the additional DPF, the turbo was a little more defined as well, but I thought the truck was a whole lot quiter.
As far as the ride goes... My first diesel was an 1982 GMC Jimmy with a 6.2 ltre diesel, my father lifted the truck for me and put some 38s underneath it. Solid front axle with 10" of leaf spring lift. I love the ride of the new trucks.
I don't know if it matters, but I test drove a GMC, but and buying a Chevy. I thought I didn't like the Chevy front end, right up until I stood in front of one. You have to see these things in person to really appreciate what your looking at.
IMHO smoother softer rides require smoother softer suspension, which is not what I want on a Heavy Duty trucks. Plus once you lift them it doesn't really matter anymore.

What your saying about the noise level "loud inside the truck quiet outside" is just the opposite of what I have experienced with mine and on the outside I would call it inchanged from the previous model in the way of noise level.

I agree. I drove both trucks down the same road at the same speeds on the same day, the LMM is quieter.

I cannot comment on the 07 Classic sounds. All I can say is that I drove a 05 model and I thought the engine was really loud when accelerating above 2000 rpms. When I first drove the LMM, I was astonished how high the rpm was and no loud sounds that had been noted with the 05 model that I had tested. Also since owning an LMM, I have had several people state " THAT'S A DIESEL, RELATING TO THE LOW NOISE LEVEL. . At one point I thought I heard a louder than usual noise from the engine, I did some checking and found the heater fan motor was on high setting causing the noise. If the heater fan make more noise than the engine, I have no complaints.

If you're unhappy about the ride quality on these trucks, consider lowering the tire pressure. I've got a 02 Chevrolet K2500 with 102,000 miles on it and a wife that has fibromyalgia whick is a condition that makes one extremely sensitive to pain. I got hold of an old tire pressure chart, weighed both axles of my truck and adjusted my tire pressures to 50 lb. front and 45 lb. rear when I'm running without my 35' fifth wheel or a large load. My wife's happy, I'm happy and I get about 35,000 to 40,000 miles out of a set of tires. If you inflate them to 85 lb. that the tire pressure decal suggests, they ride hard and they wear faster in the middle of the tire than on the edges. You've got to remember to put air in when you're loaded, but that isn't hard.

As an aside, it you want to put on 18" or 20" tires, you're going to lose ride quality because you don't have as much cushion in the tires. Gotta make up your mind what's important. Sometimes Cool comes with a cost that's more than dollars

rebates apply when you take delivery. If you ordered today the rebates would be what ever it was when you took delivery. Could go either way....for better or worse. Thats one thing that sucks about ordering. You dont know what you have for promotional interest rate or rebate. The "power pack disscount" or what ever its called wont change though. PM howard here on the board. He is a realy helpfull guy and may be able to help :)

I wonder why they did not use the coil-over for the entire truck line up?

So when would be the best time to order one? Howard? Going back to the noise level, I've ridden in older Duramax's and i really think there might have been something missing in this particular truck, it was really loud. As soon as they get some more in I'm going to drive one and see. I'm still getting the truck sound high or not but it was not as near as quiet as the 08 ford I drove. I just need to find out when to order it (rebates)

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra and just made my first trip. I noticed excessive fan noise. When I returned I took it to the dealer and they said it was operating normally. I have noticed excessive noise in the mornings for the first few miles and when pulling my camper when accelerating from a stop or when pulling a grade and the engine downshifts. Has anyone else noticed this occuring.

My LMM is extremely quiet under normal conditions. When the fan clutch is engaged, the cooling fan is extremely noisy until the temp is lowered and then it goes back to normal. When just started, it does seem noisier and the fan clutch seems to engage more often. Once you get on the open road, it is as quiet as can be. Drive a Ford F 250 is you want to hear some noise.
