I have a delema,

I have a 6.2 that I bought for my suburban. It supposedly has only 50,000 miles on it. Its a 1990 Goodwrench crate motor that I thought had blown head gaskets...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

I took the heads off, and found one head had at least two cracks. Upon further inspection, I noticed that two pistons had cracks in the top. I'm glad I found this because I was about to slam head gaskets and call it good.

Where should I get the heads fixed?

And, since I have to replace the pistons anyway, should I get some 18 or 19:1 pistons? Where can I get new pistons?

Is there anything else I should check?

Thanks

My local machine shop was familiar with the process of repairing the
cracks between the valves in 6.2 heads. They need to remove a
plug from the intake side of the head, ream the coolant passage and
install a valve guide. This seals off the cracked area from the
water jacket.

They sold me a pair of 6.5 heads, rebuilt them (including new springs
and 3 new valves), surfaced them and repaired 4 cracks, all for about
$220.

Kennedy diesel and penninsular diesel both sell low compression pistons, but be prepared for some sticker shock.

Ebay had a rebuild kit with 19:1 pistons $750. Could you show some cracks?

I cant get a clear picture of the cracks, as they are hairline cracks.
