Ok I know this is prob. a weird question! But is there anyway to make a ford head unit work in our trucks (07' classic). I have access to my dad's Navigation unit from his current truck. I'm just curious if the wiring could be made to work.

I like the looks of the unit alot better than what's out there. I have considered the AVIC-D3 as it's very similar, just hate the huge gap that's left around the unit. If I could make the ford unit work, I would then just install a DVD player in the console cubby hole.

I know the flames are prob. coming, but any help would be appreciated.

Nope... looks like a piece of junk to me. No offense, as I know that's what you run. When they designed that unit, they put no thought into astethics. The new units look 1000 times better. I would use one of them if I could get it to fit and work... but alas... they don't!

No way it will work huh? I would think there's got to be a way to wire it in.

It's funny you mention it....I was thinking about stuffing a new twin turbo 6.4L PowerStroke into my truck. Think it will work? Ben??????:D

That's why you buy a $10 dash kit to mount that D3.

If you figure out a way to convert Ford's J1850 PWM and J2284 CAN2 busses to GM J1850VPW data bus, let me know ;)

in cars today its never as simple as red to red, black to black :(

Thanks dura. Thats the information I was looking for!

Jony b,

I'm have you not seen the D3 installed in our trucks? B/c the Avic is a 6.1 instead of a 6.5 it leaves a huge gap all the way around.... even w/ the dash kit. You have ALOT of the trim ring exposed. I'm sure there's some customization you could do to build out the trim ring to make it sit flush w/ the Avic unit. But it'd be ALOT of work and still might not turn out as great.

All depends what YOU want. :)

Take a look in some of the "garages" on the forum to get an idea of what different aftermarket, factory, etc nav units look like and pick which one you like best...good luck, let us know which one you end up going with and if you need any tips on installing it.

Look in my garage at my Avic Z1 I think it looks good and most people that climb in the truck ask me if it comes factory like that.
