: Do all LB7's have an EGR and CAT?
MCSLB7 05-17-2007, 10:28 AM I am trying to do some research on blocking the EGR for better millage, but I am not sure If I even have one. I don't have a CAT but that could have been taken out by the guy who had it before me. Are these items only on California LB7's? If it doesn't have them then I would assume I have nothing to worry about blocking, or is there another millage robbing (emissions control)system in its place? Thanks ahead for any info you might be able to provide.
ratlover 05-17-2007, 10:30 AM most dont have em. If you got a fed emission truck you dont have it.
SaguaroKid 05-17-2007, 11:57 AM My 2003 doesn't have either.
robertleeii 05-17-2007, 12:05 PM i have an egr but no cat
GMC2500HD 05-17-2007, 12:15 PM My 2004 did not have a Cat or EGR on it but a buddy of mine bought 2004 from the same dealership 1 month later and it had a CAT on it. So depends on where it comes from or where it was meant to go.
MCSLB7 05-17-2007, 05:02 PM Where would the EGR be on an LB7? Is there a method I can find this kind of information out for my specific truck (such as looking up the vin number on a site somewhere)?
rma153 05-17-2007, 10:11 PM The RPO codes of your truck indicate what emissions system you have. One of the codes is the VCL code that means it's a flleet truck and it has EGR (The U.S. fleet program gives fleet owners with EGR a tax break of some sort). Lot of good it did me - I'm the second owner, and i ain't got no fleet.... There are other codes also. Kennedy Diesel.com has a list of the emission codes for LB7.
Nathan Muthler 05-17-2007, 10:19 PM I dont have either on my 04 LB7
got-h2o 05-17-2007, 10:45 PM Niether on my 02-or my last 01 for that matter. I have an extra turbo downpipe if you need one.
I have an egr and put a egr blocker plate in. Installed 4'' exhaust did away with cat, but I have ses light on can`t get rid of light unless I take out blocker reset computer.Let me know if you find out something.....
HBruns 05-18-2007, 11:24 AM My '04 LB7 has no Cat or EGR.
Tolliwacker 05-19-2007, 09:34 AM A few of us 03's got unlucky enough to get the EGR and cat, and the dreaded p0404 code to go with it.
Carrotop79 05-23-2007, 01:54 AM Mine has a cat and RPO codes of (YF5--California emission cert), (NC1--Emission sys california). I guess I should look for the EGR tommorrow in the daytime. My question is....is there any benefit to removing the cat on my truck? How do I get it to 49 state legal?
dddonkey 05-23-2007, 02:13 AM Remove the cat, it will open up the mid range alot. I am running a 4"strait pipe on mine were the cat was and wow, it even makes the magnaflow exhaust sound that much better.
Now my question what is and egr and were is it?
Diesel Tech 05-23-2007, 11:43 AM 2001 no cat or EGR
2002 - 2004 LB7 Federal emissions no cat no EGR
2002 - 2004 LB7 Clean state emissions with cat and with EGR
It's just not California trucks that got the EGR and cat. There are currently 13 states that are what is called "clean state" so you will see them spread across the country
Carrotop79 05-23-2007, 02:07 PM So what on the engine is holding power back? Anything? I will get rid of the cat very soon, just wandering if that is all I can do to get out from under the YF5.
stumper 05-24-2007, 07:19 AM I am looking for a cat that will fit a 03 EC. I would pay the shipping if you plan on throwing yours away.
Carrotop79 05-24-2007, 09:18 AM IF removing the cat makes more power and the same noise level then yes I will sell it, but I need to know my previous post first. But, sure I have no problems getting rid of it.
sfcjones 05-24-2007, 08:35 PM Where is the EGR located?
Go to Kennedy diesel`s website it has what you need.He can answer all your questions ,he did for me.The blocker keep`s the engine from sucking exhaust soot back through engine, simple to install but you need a program installed so sel doesn`t come on.
I`ve got an EGR overider from PPE I bought it a month ago, thought it might work on my 03 didn`t work.It fit`s 04 1/2 up I`ll take 50.00 plus shipping for it if someone need`s it
Tolliwacker 05-29-2007, 09:38 AM You bought the finger stick, and NO they Won't work for us LB7 owners.
