I just bought a slide in camper for my 04 2500hd D/A and am trying to figure out the best way to connect the wiring. I currently have the 7way plug from the camper connected to the 7way at the bumper. All running lights work but not sure if the camper battery is charging while driving or fridge running etc. Owners manual shows where to connect camper wire under the hood. Is this on a relay? Is there a fuse I have to install? Also, would this wire replace a wire in the 7way plug? I'm sure this topic has been covered numerous times but we are leaving on a trip and was hoping for some quick advice. Thanks

GM gave you a pig tail with your truck to install a brake controller. Wrapped up in that pig tail is the fuse you need and the instructons. Don't let the dual battery thing get you confused...just install the fuse.

So, install the fuse and continue to plug camper in at the bumper 7way? And I'm assuming when key is off, camper will draw from its own battery rather than truck battery? Thanks again

. . . unless the camper has a battery isolator which will disconnect it from the truck, usually when the voltage drops below about 13v (or 13.2v IIRC). A fully charged battery is less than 13v (about 12.8v IIRC). The charging system usually puts out more than 14v. So it connects when the truck is charging, and disconnects when it isn't.
As WanaDmxsub mentioned, the charging lead from the truck is always hot (after the fuse is installed).
If you've got the camper/5th wheel wiring provision, there's a wiring bundle (without connectors) located between bed and the cab. If you've got it, you can wire up an connector up there (I'm assuming the camper plug is located at the front/left corner of the camper.) But the trailer 7-way is fine, too.

If you do a search here, someone did some very good detailed instructions on installing a amp meter into the charge line. Using the same instructions, you could install a 50 amp relay powered by an ignition source to turn the truck's charge line on and off with the ignition. Should be fairly easy to do.

Just went to install fuse, already had one in place. 30amp. I do have a trailer brake controller installed. Is this why there is already a fuse there? Would this affect my hot wire at the 7way at bumper?
