Ok, I know the Allison has a limp mode if you overpower it, my question is, do our ZF's have something similar built into them or do we just burn out our clutches if we overpower the ZF? If there is no "limp mode", then I know we have an easy fix, but was just wondering.....

How many third gear chirps does it take to destroy a dual mass flywheel? A one, a two, a three...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

The best/worst thing about a stick is it's all up to the user to determine what to do.

So...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif... you're saying no limp mode?

I would say, from experience, that if you load 10,600# on a tonge heavy trailer, rev to 2000 RPM and dump the clutch in 2nd while flooring the throttle that you can let a LOT of smoke out of the clutch.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif It never spun the tires (which is what I had expected to happen), and the clutch never really hooked up until I backed off . . . and that was with stock power. It was moving out smartly though.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif Since it didn't de-fuel it managed to set the record for a stocker in that other web site's pull-off.

No "limp" or defueling for ZF trucks. Unless you count the factory de-rating of LLY/ZF trucks back to LB7 torque.

The picture in my Avatar was taken at the top of the hill right after the climb . . .the clutch was still smoking.Edited by: Colorado Kid
