i am looking at a short block for sale here locally. the guy said it was out of an '88 and he did confirm that it was a 6.2. my question is what block is this casting wise? he said that there isn't a 599 cast into the valley only a number 3. it also has a plate on it stamped 6.2. i'm not sure what year they started making the 599 in prep to bore them out to 6.5. is this thing worth any attention or should i keep saving up to get an enhanced block? or should i keep looking for a pre'96 599?

lupey,

You're going to use it in an EFI truck? The block has to have a CPS so a 94-newer would be your choice. if it's going in with a mechanical pump, then never mind

i have a freshly rebuilt 4911 pump sitting on my work bench waiting to go. i still need a set of inj. lines for these pumps or whatever worked for the up to '93 trucks.

the crank sensor is in the timing cover. I have one plugged on my mechanical engine. the 599 you are only going to find in late 90 up to 93. 90, 91, and 92 will be the 6.2 bore.
