Ok guys I have what I feel is a good oil question here. Our '06's require CI-4 or CI-4+ ratings on the oil. The '07s require CJ-4 , e.g. a higher rating. I assume\presume that this is do to additional emmissions hardware on the LMM engine. I say that because if they changed to CJ-4 because of ULSD then we should all be using CJ-4 Oil. Now for the hard part, any CJ-4 Synthetic Oil I see is all 5W-40 which it says in our manual not to use. As many of you know when you see such a large range 5W-40 as opposed to a smaller range 10W-30 then it means that the oil is loaded with additives to achieve that but that of course comes with some less then desirable tradeoffs. I feel that is why the '06 Manuals say don't use 5W-40!
So basically am I think along the right lines here? Can any body substiantiate my assumptions with fact on the additional emmissions hardware on the LMM?

5W-40 CI 4, CI 4+ or CJ 4 is not a problem to run in our engines (LBZ). The CJ is primarily for the newer emission engines but also fine to use on older engines.
Not sure what you are reading were 5w-40 should not be used in our manuals. For colder climates 5w-40 or 5w-30 is recommended. It is suggested in our manuals to use 15w-40 most like myself use 5w-40 synthetics oil. I'm using the new Amsoil 5w-40(CJ) for now.

CJ-4 is backwards compatible and can be used in place of the other spec'd oil. The CJ-4 as stated above is formulated with reduced sulphated ash and a couple other items to eliminate the build up in the after-treatment devices.
I know the label on Delvac 1 5w-40 isn't labled CJ-4 yet but it is coming and maybe out by now. I know in May they intended to release the CJ-4 version. On newer diesel engines, the lower the viscosity the oil the better. A 5w40 is great since most of your internal wear is at start up, however engineers claim that a 5w20 or 30 is even better yet.
Also the fuel isn't the reason for the new spec's but the after treatment is the reason
