Beating myself up over here. Got a new duallie coming and want to go with some rubber on the new Alcoa Hot Shots I ordered from Southwest Wheel. I know I'll need Fred's 2" spacers with the 265/75/16 Will I need spacers with the 235/85/16?? Will either tire need more room in the front end?? (lift) Both have pretty close height the width is the bigger difference. The rubber I'm leaning towards is the Bridgestone Revo, Any help would be great....Thanks

I don't think you will need spacers with the 235/85/16. It's a fairly narrow tire. Definitely won't need a lift for the front end either. Worst case you will have to crank the t-bars a little but I doubt even that will be needed. 235/85/16 tires are just a little under 32" BTW.

How much will either one change the gear ratio's?

What's the stock size on a dually? Need to know that before you can calculate gear ratios.

265/75s are for 8 inch wheels,7 inch from inside seating bead.alloy wheels srw.
235/85s are for 6.5 and 6.0 inch wheels,i have not measured, but i think they are not wide as the as the alloy wheels, like 6.250, and 5.75 inside seating bead.
stocker 01 up wheels are 6.5 inch
old 2000 down are 6 inch
265/75 235/85 both tire sizes are pretty close to same diameter.within 1/4 to 1/2 total diameter unless you go off road,or drive in mud and rain, the 265s will take its toll on fuel mileage.
i have heard 265s don't work as well in harder
packed snow.they don't dig down into it very well.
they float on top more makeing less controllable,
"but sure do look good".if you tow heavy you may want to go with 235s with aftermarket wheel for the more offset, and no freds,i hear the wheel stick out a little,if you scub tire on bed or,and have a blow out it is going to be worse with the spacer.if you have seen the duallies with the plastic side
gone, you don't want that to happen.always check the tire psi cold before heavy loads."stay 5 psi short for hot road conditions".

I run the 235's in the rear and 265's in the front on stock wheels and at least with my bfg commercial t/a's they are less than 1/4" different in height.

Wouldn't that be real bad if the tires are different sizes, thus turning at different speeds when in 4wd?

I did a lot of research prior to the purchase of new tires. I found that with stock 215/85/16 the closest I could come with out throwing off the speedo and still accomplish the off-road requirement is 245/75/16 BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A radial load range E. The best part is they are relatively inexpensive. And they don't stick out of the fenders too bad with the 2" spacers. Mud flaps helped.

They are the same height. Only the width is different.

He specifically said they are different in height. Even a 1/4" difference can cause binding in 4wd. 1/4" equals roughly a difference of about 7 revolutions per mile. Where do those revolutions go? Binding and tire slip.

If the small difference posed any problem you wouldnt be able to drive down the road without passing 10 dead trucks per city block.
Get your tape measure out and measure your truck. If one of your tires looses a few lbs of air you will be worse off than me.

If you dont think its safe dont do it. My truck has run this size tire combo for 7 or 8 years with no problems.

235s don't drive nearly as good as a 265. I think they are too narrow and roll under when cornering at highway speeds, not enough contact patch on the road imo.

Looks real good. Do you have the front torsion bars cranked up or a leveling kit to clear the tires in the front?

How much do the rears stick out of the fender?

I really like the look.

@ first I got the 2" spacers from Fred but I did not like the look so I exchanged them for the 1 3/4" ones. now the tires set flush with the fender well. as for the lift I only went up with the bars 3 1/2 turns, I had to leave a little bit of rake to it because I haul heavy with my truck all the time and if it is sagging in the back DOT always pesters you.

That is good to hear they fit flush in the rear. Did you have to go 3 1/2 turns up with the bars or could you have left it stock and cleared the tires?

How hard is it to keep those alcoa's looking good.

I have 31K on my 06 now. When the Factory donughts wear out I want to go to big tires like you have and nice rims.

I don't remember if I had to turn them up, I just did not like the rake it had. also since I turned them up I think the truck rides better, a little firmer like a truck should ride. as for the up keep on the Alcoa's I have not touched them since I bought them & they have been on over a year, but now keep in mind I do not live in the rust belt so they do not see winter weather & salt.

Cool, I do not see but an inch or two once maybe twice a year of snow.

I just do not want a rougher ride is why I was asking about the turn up on the bars.

Thanks

I just put on a set of 265 Michelin LTX M/S on my truck. It handles and rides a lot better. That in addition to the Frederico sway bar kit and a new set of Bilstein's it's a lot nicer to drive. The sway bars have taken out the majority of the sway when I have the 4000 lb Lance camper on. They were worth the money. I'm hoping to get 70,000 to 80,000 mile out of the Michelins. I have a set on my Trailblazer that currently have 70,000 miles and look to have another 10-15K left on them.
