: Fluid Level Too High From GM

This last weekend I decided to change the spin on filter on the trans at the 1500 mile mark. After changing the filter I checked the fluid level and it was quite a bit above the high mark and the trans was only at about 140 degrees. I parked the truck in the other direction to make sure it wasn't due to the angle of the truck which was already on pretty level ground, and it was still high. After draining more than a quart it is now just a bit above the high mark. Has any one else seen such a high fluid level from the factory? Don't the have a automatic measuring device for filling these? Fortunately I found it early and did not tow with it yet.

Dont take this wrong or as a smart remark, but you did check it with the engine running right?

We get alot of people that dont know, only reason I am asking.

Needs to be running preferably in nuetral and hot. Run fwd and reverse a few times to get it evenly distributed in the system

This is off topic, but still just to tell the story

2005+ Corvettes dont have normal linkage type door handles anymore, its all electronic with buttons and solenoids. They also have a problem of not being driven enough and the battery gets low on charge. So the lastest calls (and this has been 1-2 every 2 weeks)

"Hi I am on my cell phone, sitting in my car, I went to start it and the starter clicked and then nothing happened, now I can get out of my car, the door wont open"

Ok, I know sounds scary, horrible design, your trapped in the car, what were they thinking when they built this?

By your left foot on the drivers side and right foot on the passanger side is a lever, it even has a picture on it, with the words pull to open door. Had people read the owners manual, they might have known about it...Or even, "Hey whats this lever for on the floor right here?"

Anyway, point is, sometimes we have to start with the easy stuff first :o:

The question was reasonable, since although obvious to those of us who have worked on cars for many years, it may not be obvious to others.

Yes, the engine was running in park on level ground with the trans warmed up to about 140 degrees and run through all the gears.

Seems like awfully lax QC to send the truck off with that much excess fluid, when the manual clearly emphasizes not to overfill the transmission. I can see some small things getting by on sucha complex machine, but this seems sloppy. This is excatly the reason I do my own work whenever possible.

It is strange, it should have also been caught when the truck was PDI'ed. Generally if anything they are about 1/2 qt low.

Typical sloppy dealer work

Agreed. Although I am a little annoid, if this is the only mistake they made, then I am OK with it. Just goes to show you need to check everything, even on a new truck!

Yup mine was high from the factory...Main reason my transmission was running hot.
