: Cal Tracs
baimpala 10-04-2004, 08:12 AM For those of you that have the Cal Trac bars, is the application the same for 4x4 as 2x4? I looked around on their website but could only find a set for 2 wheel drive vehicles. . .
Does anyone know if they'll make a custom set for you? (for another application)
Thanks,
Dennis
sp33d 10-04-2004, 11:32 PM I've had my eye on these for a couple months now too... Was hoping someone could post a couple pics after installed?

baimpala 10-04-2004, 11:43 PM Nick,
Thanks, did you order the set for the two wheel drive and they fit
okay? I was almost positive you were 4x4, but got confused when I
went to their website and all I saw was stuff for 2 wheel drives.
Thanks,
Dennis
Diesel Power 10-04-2004, 11:54 PM My truck IS 4x4.. Brandon's is 2WD. we both have caltracs bars.. they attach to the front of the leaf and under the rear axle.. i don't see how 2wd or 4wd would matter at all.. i think the leaves are the same as well as their geometry..
i think the thing is that MOST people who race, use cars and not 4WD trucks!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif so they don't list them on their website..
sp33d 10-04-2004, 11:54 PM Thanks for the pics Nick. You got one of the truck from the side? I'm curious to see how far under the truck they sit..
Diesel Power 10-04-2004, 11:57 PM look here:
www.wackywack.com/dmax.htm (http://www.wackywack.com/dmax.htm)
more pictures than you want to see.

So were you getting alot of wheel hop? is this what
the CalTrac's claim to eliminate?
Thanks for any insight,
T.
Trippin 10-05-2004, 10:50 PM I think Mike L. has them in stock. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif
baimpala 10-05-2004, 11:43 PM Nick, Trippin,
Thanks for the info.
Dennis
BMDMAX 10-06-2004, 08:53 AM Some various on truck views. I have never had a problem with wheel hop but they certainly provide weight transfer and a good hook.
I have had mine on for about four or five months with no problems. JK found them for me.

Mike L. 10-06-2004, 10:34 AM I have installed a few sets and they are the same ( 4X4 and 2WD). I do have them in stock.

sandsuby 10-06-2004, 02:00 PM How much preload are you guys running on the cal tracs.
And I keep losing the preload, Idont know if the u bolts are slipping or what. They seem plenty tight, Has anyone had this happen to them ?
Jay
Diesel Power 10-06-2004, 02:06 PM I'm running 1/4 turn per caltracs recommendation.
is the jam nut backing off on you?
BMDMAX 10-06-2004, 05:19 PM No slip on mine, but I checked the torque on the u-bolts before I removed the originals. I torqued them to 100 foot pounds. I am running the same pre-load as DP for the street, I give it a little more at the track.
You need to set the preload on a good level piece of pavement......
Trippin 10-06-2004, 10:55 PM You need to set the preload on a good level piece of pavement......
I agree,
Any little variation in surface that the truck's tires are sitting on will alter the preload. Find a nice piece of concrete for the initial setting.
sandsuby 10-07-2004, 12:31 AM Ill try setting up on level ground, I set them in the driveway last time . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif Thanks
