I may be able to purchase a left over 2006 4500 Chevy 4X4 Crew Cab 4 Wheel Drive with a Duramax/ Allison and trade in my 2006 3500 Crew Cab Dually. The only thing is when it was ordered or because it was made early in the 2006 year it does NOT have the LBZ Duramax in it, it has the LLY. My question is do you think I will be happy with it since I already have been driving a LBZ with the 360HP compaired to the 300HP that this one has? The dealer is really pushing it on me and it has a sticker of $67,000.00
Its been all upfitted and everything and its a sweet truck but the 300HP thing has me thinking and if I remember right did they have a overheat issue with this motor? Maybe not just something I thought I read somewhere.
If anyone can shed some light on this please let me know,
Thanks
Tony

I do not believe that the 06 and the 04.5-05 LLY's have that much in common and that the 06 LLY's do not seem to have the OH problem that some 04.5-05 LLY's are burdoned with. Take it for a test drive and if it seems a bit slow, then bump it up with a chip or programmer...

I did think of giving it some help with a chip and then today he calls and wants to know if I am still interested, I really am but I also found out it has the 5 speed Allison not the 6 speed. I had a 5 srpeed in my 2001 and my 06 has the 6 speed and I love it. Maybe I will wait and see if they make a LBZ with a 6 speed or they can find one somewhere. Can anyone that has one tell me how they like it or if they tow with it and if they do how heavy are you when towing?
Thanks

07 lmm lye series motor 4x4 kodiak monroe conversion at 75 i am at 2500 rpm with the stock 19.5s that came with it. moved my friends boat to tx last weekend no problems towing at all right around 12k on the hitch setup. pulled great and stops great I have no complaints but the tires will get in a groove on the highway, but with the truck none and it is also my partial daily driver since my dually has been retired into a show truck form.

The 16th of May we are trading our Chevy Kodiak c4500 2 wheel drive for a Chevy Classic 2007. Our Kodiak has been a great TV and the ride is AWESOME. It has the 300hp 605 torq and its a little short legged. But it tows 16,900 5th wheel with no problem.

We wouldn't be trading if it wasn't for my wife's eye problem, she has a hard time with the right hand mirror. The 07 4500 have a 6 speen trans. That has to be a plus. Good Luck with your choice. 300 hp is all your going to get with the stock Duramax..... GBY...

Are you saying that the newer ones will have the 6 spped Allison? I love mine now and I dont think I could go back to the 5 speed. When I talked to the dealer today he said all of them even 08 will have the 5 speed, I really think he is pushing this truck since no one wants it and they have had it on the lot for over 6 months. maybe I will wait and see what comes around for 08

All MY07s are 6 speeds. You can convert though if the price was right. If you get an MY07 get the early ones pre ACERT

I have also looked at making the jump to a 4500. I even looked at one to just tow my own trailer and not use it commercially. My opinion is if your 3500 does the job keep it. There were many things that made the 4500 not work for me (commercial), the biggest were fuel, cdl, and insurance. They do have the "cool" factor, but that just did not beat out the cost factor.

fuel is around 14mpg for my rig alot of around town driving, insurance wasnt much more than my 06 dodge 4x4 cc lb diesel. For the cdl part no troubles here must a total weight thing? My 3500 towed good, this just tows better with the extra room inside and the visibility around.

My 2007 has all the emmisions junk on it and It is not that bad 330hp rating bigger allison 2350 series and a 6 speed auto, like stated if the price is right you could do the conversion.

The Insurance thing isnt a problem I pay over $6000.00 a year now and that is with Cargo insurance. The CDL isnt either since I have had mine before they even came out and were called a CLASS 1 or A. I was just looking for the more room factor and the towing more weight reason. I didnt know the Allison was the next size larger, this dealer told me it was the 1000. I really think he is trying to get me to buy this one and not get a newer one. I told him I love the 6 speed and it is the one reason I wont buy it and that is when he told me they all come with the 5 speed so it wouldnt make a difference if I waited for a newer year. Then its the Ultr-Low Fuel, not all the Truck Stops carry it so that could be a problem since I am all over the country transporting cars. Does anyone know what will happen if you dont burn the Ultra-Low Fuel? I havent even checked into it much since I have a 06 now. But I do see it would be hard to find the other fuel in different parts of the country, also does anyone know where I can find out any info on the specs of a new 08? Just let me know
Thanks
Tony

I picked up my rig in Phoenix Arizona drove it back to OK no trouble with finding ULSD. I believe it is all mandated for them to have it now(think). Mine is an an LMM with the emissions all on it. You could call Midway Chevrolet in Arizona, ask for Fred he Has a bunch on the lot and the invetory is not sitting long.
