Seriously that seems to be the best way to describe what is happening with my truck. I have a '00 2500HD Silverado gasser with roughly 84,000 miles on it. After driving the truck and shutting it off, say about 5 minutes later, I hear this fart or ping noise coming from the gas tank. My trusty mechanic can't seem to pinpoint the problem. Any thoughts? Truck runs fine, pulls decent(but nothing like my other cowgirl's cadillac A.K.A Duramax)etc. Just curious to see how to fix this sometimes embarassing problem.

Have you replaced the gas cap? It could be caused by pressure
build up in tank from road heat. Try losening the cap once when you
park it then reseal it. It that cures it then you know you are having a
pressure build up problem than may be causing the tank to flex under
pressure.

No I haven't replaced the gas cap recently. I did notice the other day when I went to open the cap to put gas in, a hissing sound, air coming out. So your suggestion sounds about right. What is causing the pressure problem?

Heat expansion and fuel blend change (made more volitale during cooler
months) and possibly cap or engine fuel vapor capture system has failed
as it is supposed to capture all vapors from the tank.

Give it two GAS-X or BeanO pills and call me in the morning.

Noise is probably the muffler expanding and contracting, first noticed on 98 K1500 I had, haven't noticed yet on 02. 98 had 5.7 02 has 8.1

my friends 01 hd did the samething. happened more in the winter time when he went from the cold to the heat in a gargage.
