: 2nd egr failure @34K MILES
rick holbein 05-14-2007, 07:20 PM Trying to find out how many people are having multiple egr problems? had first egr replaced at 8k miles and they said there was a bad batch then. Now i am getting the same code(p0403) and have 34k miles. How long is the emisions warranty? bought the blocker plate but wanted to wait till the warranty period is gone 2006 sierra lly loaded with 285's
tysmith 05-14-2007, 07:58 PM Get the new valve, and block it. I blocked mine at around 5k miles, and I thought i waited too long. I never had a failure, and haven't in 23k...
eggsack 05-14-2007, 09:21 PM What are you waiting for???? When they put the new EGR valve in it, block it and stick it, no more problems.:D
You will never have an issue again. You are wasting your and your stealers time on fixing something that you can personally prevent. I had my plate and stick installed at around 9,000 miles. I have going on 37,000 miles now and it runs better than new. No problems. I waited so long to put mine in becasue 6 days after I bought my truck, I had to drive to Vegas and back, hence the 9,000 miles.
Block it, Stick it and forget it!!!!
woodchuck2 05-15-2007, 10:39 AM Emmisions are covered to 80k on all vehicles but our engines are covered to 100k which the EGR valve is part of. I would agree with above, block/stick it, havent done it myself but will be when it craps out again, went bad at 18k and no other problems yet.
TTA89 05-15-2007, 12:51 PM Almost 31K and still on the factory EGR without issues. All stock except for a Predator on 65.
btfarm 05-15-2007, 01:39 PM 27k all stock, runs great and never an issue of any kind, getting 18-19 mpg. Thought about the block and stick but that's as far as I got with it... If it ain't broke,...
Cobra#3747 05-15-2007, 04:34 PM there is a reprogram for setting false EGR codes, was released in April off the top of my head
Oops, not april was march, here is the bulletin number and such
LBZ LLY Engine with Rough Idle, Poor Performance, Black/White Exhaust Smoke, MIL/SES Light On, DTCs P003A, P060B, P0230, P0403, P0401, P0606, P2146, P2149, P2152, P2155 (Reprogram ECM) #06-06-04-066A - (03/09/2007)
kr350psd 05-15-2007, 04:50 PM Put that blocker plate in. I put mine in at less than 2k. Put the exhaust in the exhaust pipe, not in the motor.
rick holbein 05-15-2007, 08:20 PM thanks everyone for the info. will get new valve but not sure about doing the blocker. thanks again
2006 lly loaded with 285's
scanman 05-15-2007, 08:26 PM Blocked and Sticked mine at 1500 miles with no issues to date. No CEL either. Currently 13100 miles. This is a fantastic and inexpensive mod.
rick holbein 05-15-2007, 08:29 PM Where can I find the bulletin? I would like to have a copy of it. thanks
Cobra#3747 05-15-2007, 09:00 PM Subject: Diesel Engine Control Module Software Calibration Update - keywords 6.6L air block circuit diagnostics DTC ECM EGR fuel heater injector intake P046C P0116 P0181 P0201 P0202 P0203 P0204 P0205 P0206 #PIP3815A - (06/30/2006)
Models: 2006 Chevrolet Express, Kodiak, Silverado
2006 GMC Savana, Sierra, TopKick
Equipped With the 6.6L Duramax Diesel Engines RPO LLY and LBZ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
On April 30, 2006, a new service software calibration update for Duramax Diesel engines was been made available to improve the capability of Engine Control Module diagnostics. The calibration updates are for Improved Temperature Rationality, EGR Valve, Fuel Injector, ECM, and Boost Control Diagnostics.
Recommendation/Instructions:
The new service calibration includes many improvements. A list of improvements is found below.
Block heater diagnostics were changed to reduce the possibility of false P0116 and P0181 codes. The diagnostic has been changed to make P0181 compare the Fuel Temperature Sensor to the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 (instead of Intake Air Temperature sensor 2) at startup. It is also recommended that if a vehicle has DTC P0116 and/or P0181 active or in history, to review block heater usage guidelines (use should be restricted to temperatures below 0°F / -18°C) with the vehicle owner.
This new service calibration release also includes changes to reduce the instance of false fuel injector trouble codes P0201 through P0208 by diagnosing and reporting only opens and shorts in the injector circuits.
It also changes the order in which EGR Valve diagnostic tests are run, to not only reduce the instance of false DTCs, but to reduce the occurrence of multiple EGR valve Diagnostic Trouble Codes setting. EGR DTCs affected include P046C, P0401, P0403, P0405 and P0406.
Turbocharger diagnostics have been revised to make the reporting of turbo trouble codes more robust, as well as improving the control of the VNT solenoid.
Engine Control Module state of health diagnostics have also been improved by increasing the number of communication retries prior to setting P2610, keeping P0000 (an invalid DTC) from setting, and disabling P0606 when an under-voltage situation is detected.
If a vehicle has any of the above mentioned DTCs active or history, the technician should check to see if the vehicle has the latest Engine Control Module software calibration, reprogram the ECM and clear all DTCs before diagnosing further.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
TexasDriver 05-16-2007, 03:52 PM if you dont mind me asking, but how much is your stealer wanting for a new EGR valve?
haulin-rv 05-16-2007, 04:46 PM Not blocked, no stick, no codes (since I got rid of the afe crap), no problems. Currently running Banks Ram Air w/ no codes:D.
rick holbein 05-16-2007, 08:48 PM The EGR will be covered under warranty but I did ask the parts man and he said @ $275. Also thanks COBRA for all the info.
Cobra#3747 05-16-2007, 09:51 PM anytime
jawaring 06-26-2007, 03:27 PM Not blocked, no stick, no codes (since I got rid of the afe crap), no problems. Currently running Banks Ram Air w/ no codes:D.
No block / no stick with over a quarter million miles and no EGR related engine problems? I can't figure out if this is an over-hyped mod or not- I certainly see lots of comments on the pro side but you're an example of why it doesn't seem to do that much harm....
Cobra#3747 06-26-2007, 03:53 PM I dont see exhuast in his mod list. Dont need blocker and stick until cat. converter removal
jawaring 06-26-2007, 04:04 PM oh really? I didn't know that- do some do the block/stick mod without exhaust anyway just to keep exhaust out of the motor?
TIM Z 06-26-2007, 04:05 PM I dont see exhuast in his mod list. Dont need blocker and stick until cat. converter removal
ditto. No probs here either. this was one of the first mods ive done.
redneckbuckeye 06-26-2007, 04:33 PM I blocked and finger my egr with 1500 miles now have 13300 and no issues to date.
Cobra#3747 06-26-2007, 04:35 PM Some may, helps keep the oil looking a little cleaner (as far as clean can look with diesel oil) but really only people need it when they start changing the exhaust around and removing the cat.
