Anybody else got one of these, TDG you seen any of these before, I did not put this in and I don't remember if GM added it when they replaced my IP, if this "stone" was plugged could be another source of stalling/hesitating some folks can't figure out why as it's at inlet of the IP, after the factory on engine filter. Last 2 images not the best, GMCTD & I were at a loss when we found it.

No, I've never seen one of those there before. Shouldn't be anything, maybe someone added it as an extension for some reason. Whatever it is, it shouldn't be there, that supply line should plug directly into the inlet fitting on the pump. My advice is remove it, and run a new inlet hose from the filterbase to the IP. This can be done without removing the manifold, just remove the 2 filter base bolts and disconnect the line from the bottom, fish your new hose under the manifold and hook it back up from the filter directly to the pump. If possible, I'd also like to see a picture of whatever that is when you get it out of there so it can be identified.

It is a in line filter in a clear plastic housing, the filter is a porus brass element, kind of like a "stone filter" you would find in a chain saw or gas weed eater fuel tank.

I intend to remove it just have not got to it yet; this is where I'm going to install a tee with a 2nd vac switch to monitor fuel filter blockage, and gauge tap to monitor lift pump pressure.
