I coming up on my first oil change on my 04 duramax diesel and I would like to know more about the two oil mentioned. The reason I am leaning towards these oils are because they are both readily avalible in my location. I also plan to switch over to synthetic after 10K miles. I'd really appreciate the knowledgeable experts to shed some light on this topic. I tried to find a virgin oil analisis on the two, but I couldn't.
Also, I think I just read that they are starting to add moly to the delo 400...is this true?

Either will work fine, my preference was Delo 400 until I went to Mobil Delvac1

I just did my first oil change on my 2005 and went with RotellaT..

Went with Shell Rotella. Heard it was good, pretty popular in this area and was what the servicing business handles. Meets or beats all the GM specs so no warranty problems.

I started with Shell Rotella T. At 5,000 miles I switched to Delvac 1300 (a lot of people on hear spoke highly of it) and suddenly noticed the famous "ticking" noise. After only 500 miles more I switched back to Rotella T and the ticking has quieted down. I can still hear it periodically, but no where near the noise level I heard using Delvac 1300.


Some may say I am crazy, but this was my experience. The local dealer also uses Rotella T for their service work.
