: Camper Mirror
WAskier 10-03-2004, 11:19 AM Maybe it's just a truck thing I need to get used to but my new 2500HD came with the extending camper mirrors and the passenger side mirror I've noticed isn't convex like most cars which is leaving a huge blind spot on that side of the truck. I can't seem to adjust the mirror so that I can see if there's a car next to the bed of my truck. Anyone have this problem too? And know of a way to fix it?
Max Power 10-03-2004, 12:38 PM I am used to it and don't find a problem with it at all anymore. You can get one of those stick on convex mirrors. Other then that there is not much you can do.
Have a look at the bottom of this page for a clamp on solution.

WAskier 10-03-2004, 12:51 PM I figured I'd just have to get used to it. It probably won't be that much of a problem, I have only had the truck for 2 days now. I guess time will tell.
Coghlin 10-03-2004, 03:10 PM I found it quite annoying at first. Now I don't notice it much
BH in AZ 10-04-2004, 06:54 PM I agree, it is a troublesome blind spot. I would see small cars and motor bikes come up from behind then completely disappear when riding along side my right rear wheel. Looking over my right shoulder didn't help since the bed rail is higher than the roof of some of the cars.
I bought this stick on mirror at Camping World for $2.06 (Pres. club price). Images are on the small side, but it defintately lets me know when someone is in the blind spot. I tried all the corners, but this location worked best for viewing the area right along side of the bed. You also need to rotate the stick on mirror to find the right angle. Styling wise, it blends in with the factory mirror.

Max Owner 10-04-2004, 09:18 PM Are replacing the mirrors an option? People like the Shafenacker TTT mirrors.
1st Diesel 10-05-2004, 10:44 PM I'll trade you for my non-extending, heated, pwr folding with turn indicator arrow mirrors...

Not that I really want to but would they even mount up and work with the existing wiring?
WAskier 10-05-2004, 11:43 PM BH in AZ I think I might try something like that little stick on mirror you have there. Since I got a toolbox yesterday I can't see anything out of the side of the truck any more.
clake 10-06-2004, 10:53 AM I am glade they have the regular mirriors on my 2004 Hd Chevy diesel truck. Just add the convex mirriors. The full convex mirrior is to deceiving. I never did like it on my other trucks. I even changed the glass of the mirrior on one of my trucks.
skoryaro2 10-06-2004, 11:59 AM While on the subject of mirrors - I have a question???
I have only the stock power mirrors (SLE package), no turn signal or
extendable camper mirrors. My window sticker says my truck has
HEATED mirrors but I don't have the "heated" mirror symbol on the
driver's mirror as the manual says I am suppose to have.
Do I have heated mirrors? Is there another way to tell (other than waiting for frost)?
Rob
WAskier - sorry, don't mean to highjack your thread!

SmoknDmax 10-06-2004, 01:33 PM Since you live in Michigan, on one of these cool mornings we are now getting in the midwest, wait for the mirror to start to fog while driving. Then press your rear window defog button. If the mirrors clear, then you have heated mirrors.

Thanks for the info - I wasn't sure if the mirrors were tied in to the
rear window defrost or not. Didn't want to go to the extreme of
parking my truck outside overnight!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
DRCook 10-06-2004, 07:10 PM I have the exact same mirror located in the exact same place as BH in AZ did (as pictured above). Got ours from Walmart for a couple dollars. Bright minds think alike http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

PointSevenFive 10-07-2004, 03:58 PM You mean you people actually look in your mirrors before you turn?

Just joking. I didn't even know the mirrors extended until a few weeks after I bought my truck, I was trying to adjust the non-convex right mirror (yes it did annoy me) and I popped them out on accident. I have become used to the mirror on the right, but am going to eventually buy that stick on convex like BH in AZ.
Seems like I will be looking for these at Wal-Mart!Edited by: PointSevenFive
jpekarek 10-07-2004, 06:22 PM Just another opinion:
I hate the right side mirror, constantly adjusting it up and down to see cars/back up.
Love the truck though! Hopfully someday my gas pedal will quit sticking to the floor and i'll start getting better mileage.

My truck is an '03 Silverado HD Crew DMax 4x4. I don't know for sure myself but when I look at mirrors they typically state '03 thru '05.
I'm towing a 31' 5th wheel and am looking for extendable OEM mirroes...
