Howdy Guys,
I am just starting, I am looking at buying a hitch. I have a short box 6.5' with a 2500 HD Duromax 4x4. I would like to get a non slider as I can have the use of the bed. Do I need a slider with the short box?

B&W Gooseneck that doubles as a Fifth Wheel. No bed obstructions and rated for 30k pull and 7k on the pin.

I second the B&W option to the point that it is what I bought...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
But you must be aware that you can really get into some trouble with a fiver on the back of a short box. If you can ALWAYS remember what the cab to trailer clearance problems can be and those will be different with different trailers, I guess you can get away with it, but if you slip up even once well...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif
But that's just my .02 on the subject.

I agree with Burner and Zeeb... B&W is the way to go... You can see some pictures of one installed on my truck... See Truck Pics below ... As Zeeb said WATCH THE CLEARANCE!!!...........Triffid

An extended pin box will give you more angle than you should use. The pin box brackets on mine will hit the bed rails before the trailer cap will hit the cab. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/FrankBlum/2004-10-03_180812_119_1941.JPGLater! Frank

For a short bed, the Pullrite slider is the way to go.

i dont have a slider on my s/b but my pin is ahead of the bulk head of mt trailer on a s/b i think thats important if you dont get a slider ive had no problems and last summer weve pull 12000 k plus for over a month

Guess I'm lucky. My gooseneck tapers slightly and I can fully jacknife with my shortbed. Need to get the 5er manufacturers to figure that one out.

We have a Pull Rite Super 5th w/ Super Rails. I agree with Alaska Transporter! If you have a short bed, the Pull Rite w/ Slider is the way to go! It's an excellent hitch with a sure and secure coupling. Without a slider, on a severe turn forward or backward, you could end up with the trailer cap coming into contact with the back of the cab. With an extended pin box, you have another kind of potential problem. Why risk it?

I will be putting in Reese rails and will have a Reese 20K 5th wheel
hitch. My Step father has had The same rails, and Reese 15K hitches on
his last two and current trucks ('90 GMC, '97 Chevy (which I had until
I got my '04), '01 GMC). Never had a bit of trouble. The hitch pulls
out allowing full ue of the bed, and the rails can accept several
different hitches, including a plate for a gooseneck or 5th wheels
ranging from 15K to 22K (I think 22 is the highest).
