I searched the forums for clarification of some Allison fluid and filter questions that I had and am quite confused. My 2004 3500 has the Model 1000PK tranny.
1. What is the reason that many of you have changed from a stock pan to the "Allison Deep Pan?"
2. What is the difference between the "Allison Deep Pan Filter#: 29536522" and the "Deep Pan Suction Filter#:29537966?"
3. Are you recommending that I change from Dex III to Transynd if I change all of my filters? My truck has 80 K miles
Thanks for the help

Also, as a follow up, what is the purpose of the filter lock?

Deep pan is oem on all allison transmissions except GM. Extra capacity is why i went with it. Dont know the filter numbers, i got the ally deep filter that goes with the deep pan. The filter lock is just for my own piece of mind, making sure the filter does not drop into the pan with a heavy jolt when going off road, pulling a 7500 lb limb chipper. Transynd is the recommended fluid by Allison. Allison makes the transmission and gm buys it from them. I will listen to allison before i listen to gm on this particular subject. All of these changes are IMO for durability and longevity.
