Hey all, just changed my oil and now have a leaky plug? I'd pull it and replace the copper gasket but only got 100 mi. on the oil and hate to waste it. Any ideas.
thanks...andy:mad:

could you go any tighter? At least until next oil change? If not, clean up your oil drain pan real good, drain the oil and reuse it when you're done switching the washer. The mess would have to be worth the peace of mind. Good luck.

I would try and get some twine string, loosen the drain plug a little, wrap the twine around the threads a few times, and tighten up the plug. See if that temporarily fixes the problem for now. Be sure to monitor the plug for leaks. The twine should stop the leak for the time being. Get a new drain plug long before the next oil change. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Actually what i just did was back it out like you mentioned plug the hole with my thumb, and wrapped a little teflon tape around it, snugged 'er back up. we'll see. Anyhoo I am having a hard time finding out the size so I can order a new gasket, looked everywhere. Schucks didnt even know. they had several copper teflon and rubber gaskets but was driving my truck and could'nt size it up. Maybe the teflon will hold for 3k or so the fix. thanks.

Order a fumoto valve from Merchant Automotive (supporting vendor). It is worth its weight in gold. It will come with its own gasket. Very handy item.;)

Agree totally. Did my first change with the valve installed, piece of cake!! Didn't even have to jack the truck up!! Only downside is that it will drain slower since the opening in the valve is smaller than taking the factory drain plug out.:D :D

I ordered mine through Kennedy Diesel, he's a supporting vendor here.

I think I have an issue with threads in my oil pan. I noticed a leak shortly after I did the first oil change. At first I assumed it was cause I re-used the copper gasket but I had the dealer check it out. They installed a new plug and gasket. I noticed that one was leaking too but figured the new Fumoto valve would solve the issue. Well it didn't so basically I've been through 3 different plugs all of which leak and the dealer installed one so it's not just me.

Andy, Duct tape a shop vac hose to the oil fill and turn the vac on. Pull the plug and replace the gasket. The drain hole will be sucking air and not leaking.

After the advice/experience of others here on this issue...I replaced the gasket online by simply plugging the hole(after removal) installing the new gasket, little teflon on the threads, and wala no leakers, definately noticed the gasket crush.
