I changed my spin-on today and, as I have seen on this forum, the holes in the new filter seem to be blocked by the magnet. I bought 2 Baldwins from an advertiser on this web-site, so I presume they will be ok. I haven't driven the truck enough to notice a difference in operating temps or shift points. I will revert back to the Allison filters after I use these unless there are any problems. My question is, if I have any issues, what if I leave the magnet out with this filter? Anyone see a problem with that? The truck has 3500 miles now and everything looks clean from what I can see.

I do not see any problems with the SPX filter but don't know if it's the same as yours. The holes in the SPX appear partially covered but are really not. I have used the SPX as has Suncoast without a problem. I use it in my own truck. I now am switching to the Allison filter untill further study and testing in my shop of the SPX filter. I would not leave the magnet off. Every Allison I have serviced has had metal on the magnet so that tells me it is there for a purpose.

Just so you know, the design is to have the oil flow over the magnet.

Thats how it works.
