What manor of joint are you looking for and for what reason?

The last ones I got were from NAPA and were federal mogul, I think...

Are they wearing out or breaking? If the later, there are some exotic ones.

Use spicer. Have the shaft balanced after.

I second the vote for Spicer.

Nothing is broke yet but I hear some weakness and would like to go ahead and do a change out.

I have seen some cryogenically treated ones that is supposed to be the
best there is (super chilling them removes internal metal stress)

I have the CTM cryogenically treated U-joints in my Jeep. They are nearly indestructable, but they have no roller bearings in favor of a larger trunion (high maintenance, short lifespan). They also are not made in a 1410 size for our driveshafts.

They were Spicer... not federal mogul

Make sure they do NOT have grease fitting.

My understand though is that you can also have any joint cryo treated to as well as the exotic ones to enhance there strenght.

You can have anything cryo treated, rotors drums what ever.

Mac, Look for Connecticut driveshaft. I have been out of the loop for a
few but I know they were a large outfit at one time serving new england

Yes but it is really kinda wasted on anything but high stress parts.

Spicer for me... just replaced all 4

So if you replace the weak link with something stronger what's the weak link now?

Transmission and driveshaft itself. When torque levels get so high the
joints start failing it is also time to start re-evaluating the final
drive ratios for the "work" being done as well.

How can I get a part # for my 03 gmc 3500, want to replace my drive shaft with greaseable u-joints, maybe then my vibration will go awayhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

What's wrong with the grease fitting? Balance?

snoman

The theory is the drilling in the trunion web area weakens them so to
speak. They also make u-joints with flush fittings in the bearing
caps.

Actually I was thinking of the ones in the cap for the reason you give and can't think of anything that may be wrong with them. Surely the little bit of weight that the zerk adds would not be significant.

Are they not the same on the alum driveshaft as the 2500 series?

I think 3500 are biggerhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif
