: Why only 6 quarts?

I am looking to get out of my unreliable powerstroke and into a dmax c4500. Both Ford and Dodge run 14+ quarts of oil. Is the dmax ok in a heavy duty situation only running 6?

How do you figure it only runs 6?

That's 4 less than any Dmax I'm aware of....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif

The duramax is 10 quarts (in a 2500 and 3500 anyways).

My 03 C-4500 takes 15qts.... look real close on truck trader & truck paper and you will notice alot of them for sale really cheap. There is a reason....On mine I cant keep a set tires on the steer axle and had alot of electrical problems. Good luck on your hunt for a good truck.

The 6.2 old GM diesel and 5.7 old 350 gas have been gone a long time.

The spec needs some updating.

I like these tranny specs

So what is a rugged duty series?

Hey Tim,

When I saw that I thought about the other two engines as well, but if one converts quarts to liters, that's what you get...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

As for the trans stuff, I think that's referring to the new Vocational Series transmissions. I can't seem to find anything definitive on the availability of those transmissions, other than Allison's web site seems to suggest they'll be in the trucks starting Jan. '05.

I don't know changes they make internally, but it is stated that the 1000RDS is REQUIRED for warranty to be intact snowplowing with the medium dutieshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Yes and if you convert the quarts to liters, I believe they come out to that in literes?

Didn't know they made a 6.2 or 5.7 DURAMAX.Looks like a big mistake in the spec's.

You are really funny!

A quart is 0.94635 liters - therefore 6.5 qt = 6.151275 liters and 6 qt
= 5.6781 liters. That happens if you count all your life in some kind
of confusing system and now you are confronted to the metric system.

I guess its about time that this country really changes to metric. I am
happy that GM did realize that already and I don't need new standard
tools for the Dmax...

I haven't had any tire issues on my 04.5 c4500 yet but only have 10K.
The only issue so far is a rough idle and my marker light defeat switch
doesn't work but I think that is due to incorrect wiring by Monroe.
What I like about the C4500 is a two year unlimited mileage bumper to
bumper warranty. When you drive 140K miles a year up and down the
Alaska Highway, this looks real good!!!
