Hi everyone..
we have a 2007 duramax. We are often unable to get ultra low sulpher diesel and have to fill up with low sulphur. What damage am I doing if any as we have little or no choice at times. We do add diesel additives at times, any comments on this also, it seems to improve milage.
Would appreciate your input.

Thanks
Lynn

If you would do your signature we would know what vehicle you are reffering to. If it is a 07 classic lbz. it will burn the LSD just fine with no problems. I prefer LSD in my 07 lbz. If you have the new body style with the lmm engine then you will have to use ULSD or you WILL have problems. Consults with your dealer. It may also be benificial to read your Owners Manual . Enjoy your new truck.

Hi Jomar.. thanks for reply. Sorry to be so vague. The truck was bought Nov last year.. I don't know the exact engine model just yet. Just that its a 2007 model year duramax. What damage do you see happening IF we are one of the models that cannot low sulphur fuel as ultra low is not available in many places we travel (we are on the road with travel trailer).. I'm very confused.

If you bought it November of 06, then it is the LBZ Classic, you will be fine running either fuel.;)

Hi Hd,
thanks so much.. we looked on the inside of the fuel door and it says low sulphur fuel only, no reference to ultra low sulphur.. so I think we are all set. Many thanks.

p.s. stupid female question?? where on earth does it tell you it's a LBZ classic.. it's not in any of the literature and I can't see anything on the motor. :)
Also, I love your sig. re Freedom.

LBZ is the engine for models made in later 06 and 07, the Classic is what GM called the truck tagged as 07 (old body style), the 07.5 is the LMM engine and the newer body style. Hope that helps

lynnh123,
where are u located. if you are in Cali, the only fuel you are getting is ULSD. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that October of 06 was the cutoff on LSD, and the only thing avail. is ULSD...If you come across a pump marked LSD, it probably just hasn't been retested/updated with the new sticker.

The eighth digit in your vin number should be a "D" for your truck to be an LBZ.:D

Rushing out to look at the vin number!!

Phew! it's a D!! yeay yeay!.. also called the service manager who confirmed it's a LBZ CLASSIC (paranoid now).. we did 17,000 miles this winter in our new truck, would'av been a real horror story if we'd been putting the wrong fuel in all this time! Thanks John and all.:)
p.s. what if these new truck owners want to go to Mexico?? do they have ULSD there??

If u have been putting LSD in then that is the GOOD-STUFF! You're truck will behave alot better with that stuff than ULSD. ULSD is only mandatory on the 2007.5 (LMM)

If your truck went to Mexico you would not have any problems since you now know it is an LBZ. Regardless where you travel to I would highly recommend to carry additional fuel filter(s) along with a filter wrench and a pair of channel locks or preferably the proper tool to remove the water in fuel sensor on bottom of filter.

I keep such stuff as fuel filters, wrenches, rubber gloves (some diesel pumps are nasty), standyne fuel treatment, bungy cord, air guage and whatever else I can stuff in there in a box I keep in the back of my truck. I have a soft cover on my truck. I figure out of site out of mind.

If you are going to Mexico, some type of additional filtration of your fuel would not hurt anything and I would treat every drop of diesel for peace of mind (water in fuel). I use the Nicktane pre-filter on my truck, and I ain't going to Mexico. I treat all of my fuel, also. Nicktane has a place on this forum. There are also other manufacturers of fuel filtration solutions, I just chose the Nicktane and like it.

Numerous choices for fuel additive, I used FPPF Total Power, switching to Primrose 405C, Stanadyne is the only one recommended by GM and many, many more.

If you search this site you'll find hours of educational reading, that's how I did it and I still don't know hardly anything.
