Any of you have an issue with using oil?


I now have 15,000 miles on my truck (LLY), when I changed the oil the first couple of times I had not lost a drop.


I have since installed a Hpertech Chip and played with the settings a few times. I have also unplugged for about a thousand miles and replugged the EGR module because it made my fuel milage go down not up and I got like 4 codes.


At any rate, checking oil this morning I am down about half a quart with about five thousand miles from last oil change.

5,000 miles on LLY and no noticable oil use. Changed it at 3,000. Heading across country in a couple of weeks and will check to see how she's doing. My old 8.1 gasser used a quart of Mobil I about every 1,500 miles on cross country runs. I'm running 100% stock.

About 1 Qt in 1800 miles, Dealer seems to think it`s "normal" within the break-in period ??? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gifTime will tell.

I have 6500 on mine, it hasn't gone down at all on the stick. I am amazed, I never had anything that didn't use some. My '00 454 that I traded used a quart/2000 miles until it hit 50K, then jumped to about 4000.

What oil are you using, did you change brands? My LLY checked full each time I check my oil for the first 8,000 mile, changing every 4,000 miles using Castrol 15-40.


At 8,000 miles I switched to 15-40 Roteller T. Now at 10,000 miles when I check the oil sometimes it will appear a half qt. low, then again it will right on the full mark. My opinion is the Roteller has a slower drain back ratio than the Castrol that I was using earlier. Could this be your symptom?

Mine did use about 1/2 qt to an oil change when I ran it hard with the camper & boat through the mountains & back. Normal empty driving does not use any oil.

I have over 10,000 miles on mine and It has never used a drop of oil. Not even during break in, or when I work it really hard towing.


Dello 400 15/40 changed every 3,000 miles.

Never used any for first 11000miles, changed to rotella syn. used a quart in about 3000miles. now have 2000 more on this oil and no usage at all. Guess she had to get used to that syn stuff.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Now this is interesting, I am using rotella t (non syn), and it is after I started using it that I have lost the 1/2 qt. I think I'll just change it again today and see what happens.

Rotella is more volatile than some oils and that can account for the usage.





I changed oil in my LLY 3 times in the first 2100 miles. I now have almost 10k miles on this change and it has not mored. Using Amsoil in mine. Used Delo 400 for break-in the first 2100 miles.

Mine uses a quart ea. 4,000 miles while towing and pushing hard. Empty, no usage at all. Using Mobil Delvac 1 and changing at 10K.
