it doesnt seem like high idle does anything for my truck, is it still not cold enough to work ? what temp does it have to be and is that temp registered as the outside temp or engine temp ? and is there a trick to having it ? i thought that if i turned it on via dic that it would be on when it needed to and off when not needed, and by just leaving it set to on would be alrigth - is that correct ?

The elevated idle is activated only when it is 36deg or colder intake temp and if the engine coolant temp is 160deg or lower. Mine worked great this morning. I just leave the elevated idle on the dic to "on" all the time.
According to my owner's manual, mine comes on at 32 degress F with the coolant below 160 degrees F.
From what I saw last Winter, the OAT (Outside Air Temperature) guage on the mirror has to say 32 or below before the high idle will engage...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif

Can you get an idle controll for extended idle times on these trucks? I currently use a stick to idle the truck up to 1200 rpm's when working and running my inverter. I have been considering trading or just getting a GMC crew cab but no one has been able to give me any info on idle. Thanks

You should probably stick with the stick.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif There is some work being done, by Max Power, on actuating high idle using PTO controls, but there is some technical difficulty right now finding pins to make it work.

I have a switch on my C4500 for high idle. There should be a way to
make this work on the light duties as it has the same LLY engine.
