: blOnde Star speaker??

The small perforated disc in the head liner over my left ear is emitting an annoying noise. I first thought something was rattling.

Went to the dealer's service dept and the guy behind the counter did NOT know what the disc was but thought it might be the blonde star speaker. I don't have on star. They want to rip out the headliner to check it out. Before they go messing with my truck;

Is that disc the onstar speaker?
Why would be emitting that annoying noise?
Is there another way to stop it with removing the head liner?

I would think that if it was a speaker the wires to it have to originate somewhere. Would it not be a better idea to disconnect a wire at the source?

I have installed the Predator program on its lowest setting if that makes a difference

Thanks for the help

I know exactly what you are talking about I have had a couple wierd noises just suddenly happen out of nowheres on the truck while driving. I never thought about it coming from that speaker or MIc or whatever it is. I also do not have onstar in my truck. Seeing as how most trucks do though I'm sure chevy only makes the one type of headliner for crew cans without a sunroof.

Like I said its only happened maybe twice so its not something I have really thoughgt about.

haaaaa haaaaaa

it is the fan for your climate control. I went through the same thing. it sucks in air from the cabin to a sensor, which relays information to your climate control... for when you have it set to a certain temperature. you can easily pull it out, replace the bearings, and re-install it

OK, care to elaborate on how you go about changing the bearing in it? I would imagine that would cost about as much as replacing the sensor itself.

I think that's in the owners manual under the blinker fluid section.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think he's pulling your leg.

If you dont have an air compressor get you a can of air that you would use to clean your key board. You will get more dust and crap on your headliner from rolling your windows down.

I dont think changing the bearings is cost effective or even worth the time if I recall the part is only like 37$.

I remember many a day of beating the **** out of my headliner to make it stop buzzing. Usually a few good hits and it was quiet for a short while. A blower bearing? WTF? I just assumed something (inanimate) was rattling up there.

I think that you all are talking about 2 different things. The disk in the headliner does not have any bearings in it.If you pull the headliner down just a little on that side you will that there is some wires going to it from somewhere.I have to agree with the other post that it might just be a speaker for the on star even though your truck does not have it in it.Mine is the same way but i have not heard anything from mine...04 2500HD 4x4 4 door with 411 gears (sucks too much fuel) but came with it..
