Well I finally saw the glow plug light. Thing is so fast I was beginning to wonder if the light was even there. Had to wait till the weather cooled off a bit.

I see it all the time on my LB7.

It was 30deg this morning, the glow plug light was on less than two seconds. Engine fired up like normal, then the elevated idle went to work, the idle slowly increased to about 1600rpm. I kept an eye on it and when the engine temp got to 160deg the idle slowly returned to normal.

I am amazed at how far the technology has come with all the new diesels. My only other experience was with a very early 6.2gm that was a joke.

Hope you all like your MAX as well as I do..............

That's to be expected. The change in the glow plug system from the LB7 to the LLY makes it so the max time you'll see the glow plugs on with an LLY is thee seconds when it's real cold.

In warm weather, it's rare to see it on an LLY, maybe first start of the day for about a second but that's it.

It took a dozen times to show my wife the light on the LLY because it is on for just milliseconds. She thought I was seeing things for the longest period of time. Well actually I am starting to see lots of things as I'm getting older!

When I first test drove it I clicked on the ignition the started looking for the glow plug light. Sales rep said you don't have to wait. Just start it up and drive like a gas truck. After buying it and reading the manual it said it was there but that it was real quick. Was beginning to believe the dealer. Man this truck is awesome. Compared to my old 95 454 one ton it is a dream. More power, better mileage (twice as good mileage towing), and just more testosterone all around.

I've read the posts on how the glow plug on the LLY barely comes on.
Mine flashes on in the morning if the outside temp is between 60-70.
Now that our mornings area dropping to the mid 50's, it's on for 1-2
seconds. I won't see temps in the 30's until we take it to the hills, but it
sounds like I have slow glow plugs compared to the norm on the forums.

Not panicing...I actually like seeing it come on. Reminds me that it's
working! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I'm out in Michigan and was starting my truck this morning (about 35 degrees). Just turned it over and started. It turned over longer than normal though, maybe a second, if that. I was so used to not waiting at all that I completely forgot about it! Of course it hits me instantly... ("ah yes dumbass, this is a diesel...glowplugs http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif")

I'm yet to see the light, guess I'll have to take a peek here after work!

DOH! You mean that little "lock" symbol isn't what I'm supposed to wait for??? Of course it has yet to drop below 60 since I bought this beast. I have been turning the key and waiting for the little lock to disappear(like a good diesel owner). It was kinda annoying, just as the XM tuned in, the light would go out so I would start it and have to wait the few seconds again for the XM to tune back in(hate to miss a second of XM Comedy).... Strange how we get accustomed to the "instant" self gratification things so quickly...
