: LBZ stood on her nose...
theaceman 05-08-2007, 10:29 PM I have roughly 4000 miles on my '07 Classic. So Ive been driving it a little harder lately...to see what she is made of.
Tonight I went for a ride and from a "rolling stop" made the turn onto a nice smooth gradual uphill climb......stood on it.....and let 'er rip.
I got up to about 60mph...the tach was pushing 3000 rpms......and it was almost like it hit a rev limiter and the truck just about stood on her nose.
It shifted into 5th and seem to take off again.
Is there a rev limiter? That prevents you from red lining? I thought this thing would take off....but I have to admit I was pretty disappointed with the acceleration tonight.
Any thoughts?
ps......the truck is 100% stock
ps.....it seems like it acts really funny when it winds out before each shift. It seems to shift ok.....but the performance really confuses me...
(this is my first diesel)
CRASHNBURN 05-08-2007, 10:32 PM 95/96 mph is the rev limiter.
NCexRider 05-08-2007, 10:33 PM It's defueling before it shifts under hard accel. Also, it takes some hard driving to "train" your tranny.
Jasondt2001 05-08-2007, 10:34 PM The 4-5 shift may have defueled, that might have been the 'standing' on the nose thing you're thinking of. I have weeks where i just baby this thing, and then when i whomp on it it seems like it's running on 6 cylinders.
Then if i beat on it for a day or two it feels like a freaking corvette... Go figure...
I think it may be the Alli and the shifting, you're going from easy to hotrod and it's just trying to guess what you're going to make it do next..
From what I got of the jist of it is, the trans has a auto 'no hurt' mode that will back the fuel off (like you lifted your foot from the gas pedal) automatically while it shifts into the next gear. When it is IN gear not between shifting it will turn on the coal again and go 100 percent.
ratlover 05-08-2007, 10:46 PM May be trans training. It will take some shifts in each mode and throttle position etc to get with the program.
It will only fuel to a certian point so it does have a "rev limiter". This is much lower than what it will grade brake to and is normal.
The revlimiter is past 3kt though. Go warm her up and dry rev it. Its fin to hold your foot to the floor in nutral or park....it wont rev faster than whats safe :)
theaceman 05-08-2007, 10:48 PM defueling........thats a new term to this former 1/2 ton gasser...
95/96 mph is the rev limiter.
yeah...its like its hitting a true rev limiter...not the 95 mph shut down.
after reading the responses...Im thinking it was the defueling thing. once it shifted...it took off again......

Thats the experience I have from racing quads and bikes in my earlier days......pinning it wont hurt it. If it cant handle that simple abuse......you are in for bigger problems.
Maybe I baby this thing too much......in the back of my mind everytime I step on it...I see the fuel pump flashing in front of my eyes.
Although I did buy fuel tonight for $2.79 (20 cents cheaper than 87 oct. gas!!!)
SJRALEY 05-09-2007, 06:30 AM Mine did it too after downloading a new Efi Live program. Just drive kinda hard/ half throtle for about a day, maybe even two... and then try and run your test agian. You just have to teach your trans that your not 90 and you may drive hard one day!
woodchuck2 05-09-2007, 08:02 AM If i remember correctly these engines will defuel when it hits 3500 rpm under acceleration also.
jevanb 05-09-2007, 08:31 AM replace fuel filter and it will not seem so lame I had to replace mine twice within 2k because bad fuel and it stood on it's face with the 85hp program, runs like a stripe arse ape now
scanman 05-09-2007, 11:16 AM Rev limiter is about 3200 rpm reguardless of speed unless u are grade braking.

I am very happy to hear someone else report the same findings. During my day to day commute, I rarely exceed 50mph and drive very mild due to traffic congestion (57 stop lights in 20 miles).
After a weekend of pulling my trailer, the truck shifts crisp and seems to know that it can be fast. Throw two days of commuting in there and it feels like the tranny is made of rubber. It's upshifting as I roll on the throttle. :(
Guess I need to romp on it every day to keep it trained. :D
theaceman 05-09-2007, 09:12 PM I completely agree with you Grouch......I just dont drive like that on a daily basis.
Once in a while I like to get on it and blow the cob webs out of it......but thats far and few between...
I guess you should drive it like a young kid...but you have to have the money of an adult to afford it.
theaceman 05-09-2007, 09:15 PM Rev limiter is about 3200 rpm reguardless of speed unless u are grade braking.
Thats right about where it happened...
No matter what...this truck continues to impress me.

yeah you're not the only one by any means grouch. The way i found out is I would get mad at it, beat crap out of it waiting for it to 'unload' all the crap from the engine. I just KNEW it had to be all loaded up or something in there holding it back.
One day I dropped my horse trailer and had been on it pretty good and this big bastard TOOK off like someone lit a match under it's butt. I mean black smoke, tires screaming, pulled me back in my seat. I had the BIGGEST goofy grin on my face. Put two and two together and realized if i be nice to it, it goes away.
So keep 'er trained. LOL
