: Next time u talk to a cummins guy.
salmandmx 05-08-2007, 05:15 PM Found this on the internet. You always hear about cummins guys ranting and raving about their 300-400k miles that they have on their truck. Here is a little piece of info u can share w/ them.

yep. go to www.chevy200k.com (http://www.chevy200k.com) There were a few gassers that had 1mm+ on there. Surely, those people were on there 2-4th engines!!!

Hmm. Funny thing is how come Ford and Dodge don't have such website. Guess they couldn't come up with enough trucks that meet those criterias!
calirider 05-11-2007, 07:48 PM I like this idea of a site but a lot of people mess up and ad one of two extra 0's to their total miles. That red Dmax is rocking.
OldSoldier 05-11-2007, 08:18 PM If you do the numbers, that equates to 12,090 hours (if averaging 50 mph). There are 8760 hours in a year...or nearly 1 1/2 years of continuous driving.
At 40 mph it works out to 15,115 hours...about one year and eight and a half months.
Papuller86 05-11-2007, 10:30 PM i know GM just started a thing that if u make it to a million miles with one of there cars or truck they will buy the truck back off of u for what u paied for it

Probably some stretching going on there.. But also there are some trucks that are 10 plus years old. Do a 100k per yr and there is your million miles...Heck check out Haulin RV's thread.. His truck is a year old and has 250k on his LBZ.
thejdman04 05-12-2007, 10:00 PM thats impressive
I think most veichels will last that many miles with proper maintance and lots of repairs, expensive repairs if you are driving a dmax or ps. However the cummins will last that long with minamal repair and money. Just my .02

no argue that cummins is a good motor, I am not one of those kids that scream on this website and others that "MY TRUCK (that daddy bot me) is better than yours." But you got to keep in my that cummins has been around for decades and decades and duramax is only been around 7yrs or so in production and they are building an equally good motor. It's just a matter of time that they will surpass them if they haven't already with the LBZ and LMM.

I seen a powerstroke with over 1.2 million miles on it

Thats awesome, probably a 7.3. The "good" powerstroke. It all goes back to you as the owner and how well you take care of it.
They are building cars and trucks better every year. Its the operating cost I am concerend with. That ps you speak off is not alone, probably with all mfg. But how much did it cost to put that many miles on it. Probably could by a new truck in injector cost alone. I am not a cummins fan or dmax or ps . I am a fan of power lots of power and reliablilety & a reasonable cost.
Unit453 05-13-2007, 07:23 PM I've seen gas powered LT1 Chevy Caprices, 4.6 Ford Crown Vics with well over 400,000 miles on them before...
AKDoug 05-13-2007, 07:55 PM We have a local towing outfit that has a Ford 460 wrecker that has 400K on it with the original engine. Amazing.
King Pin 05-13-2007, 08:01 PM I bought a 1995 K3500 with a 454 that has 546,000 miles on it when it blew it's cookies. I also have a customer with a 1990 Astro van with 550,000 miles on it & the only thing he did to the engine was head gaskets at 510,000 miles.
mattydmax 05-14-2007, 12:10 AM to even bother with head gaskets at 510k is hilarious!!! if taken care of it's sometimes surprising what some engines will do. I have had 2 6 cylinder cherokees that went over 280k with no rebuild and a ford 6 cylinder that was at 240k when I sold it. No major engine parts to speak of in any of those.
8100 Power 05-14-2007, 01:17 AM I see trucks on that website with over 1 Million miles posted..Is that posible?? some with 3 Mill +...

I agree with you on the fact that he was a moron for putting head gaskets in a 4.3 at that high of mileage but that is what he wanted & you know the customer is ALWAYS right!!!!
mattydmax 05-14-2007, 03:49 PM I think it is funny that it is even possible...not knocking anybody...damn thing is probably still running.
salmandmx 05-14-2007, 04:17 PM I see trucks on that website with over 1 Million miles posted..Is that posible?? some with 3 Mill +...
I believe you have to provide them with all sorts of documentations. You just can't call em up and say, "Hey I got 500-600-1mm miles on my truck and be done with it. 8100 power. I dont see how those people got to 1mm+ miles. The maintance they spent to get there, no telling how many new vehicles they could've purchased!
rockman20 05-18-2007, 04:20 PM That's what I'm interested in. How well did the vehicle hold up? I could put that many miles on any vehicle if I pump enough money into them! Chevy, Furd, Dodge, whatever. You can make anything go for a million miles if you got money.
I had a Honda Accord that had 250,000 miles on it. I replaced the alternator, a clutch, 2 driveshafts, timing belt, redid the carburator, and put in a new distributer. Not a bad repair sheet for 250,000 miles.
That's what I would like to see!
hpi_jeep 06-08-2007, 05:46 AM people put millions of miles on big trucks all the time. just figure the price of oil, filters, and tires alone on them...
the upkeep on a little 1 ton truck is cheap compared to that, especially if your running the truck for a living.
now if it was personal and not for work  that's alot of money in upkeep
ElCaminoManT 06-09-2007, 12:02 AM thats alot of miles.
see my signature, my jetta is just at about 400K miles and just got a head gasket about 2K miles ago. why spend the money? only cost me ~$75 and my labor as im a vw mechanic. its my commuter and is a hell of a lot of fun to drive. although the starter just pooped out yesterday, got a spare from a 97 ill drop in there.
