how come my rear end isnt a posi? it says i got the posi in the sticker and when i power brake it its a posi. its dead even but when i turn and nail the gas or even when i dont it isnt a posi. its been raining allot hear latly and my truck sucks on hills in the rain. tonight my truck starts to go up the hill spinning one tire then all of a sudden its spinning 2 and it goes sideways. now before the bs starts its on a dead end road with zero traffic on it.

but my tires where deffinetly 100 rpm differnce. could the gear fluid being low cause that? because i herd they came low from the factory

Have you checked the fluid? Pretty easy, but dirty, answer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

The G80 locker is pretty sophisticated. Do a search on G80 and read up. You that you CAN'T spin just 1 rear tire at 3 mph no matter what you do. It's not for racing, it's for getting you out of a bind, so it kicks out at ~5mph.

Check your glovebox for the G80 code, then check your gear oil level.

Also it will not engage above 20 MPH if is is a GOV Loc design.
You do not need posi to spin both tires, just equal traction on both
tires.

its got a posi ive been on dirt and tar at the same time spinning both rear tires been in mud and tar at the same time spinning both rear tires. but just recently it started to spinn 1 rear tire in rain and then the second one would slam in and the truck would kick out. usually its a posi as soon as the tires break lose and stay that way till i let off the gas. but its been acting strange.

I agree. Gov Locs are not the most reliable things though and can kick
in with a bang on slick, low torque capacity surfaces too.

what other options are out there?

Stock? open diff and the gov lock has all thats been offered on trucks for some time.

Or do you mean replacement aftermarket? If so do you want a clutch type limited slip(an old "posi" design) a true locker, a selectable locker? I know lincoln makes a locker for every application under the sun and you wont ever run into a time when you can overpower it(unless you break it) http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

i'm thinking of going with the posi found in the newer dodge aam's... going into shop tomorrow..

i do need something for racing and pulling, and i don't want to have to run a compressor...

I some how dont think the GENERAL wants the average Duramax owner going around corners in the rain or snow with a locked rear end and all that torque, a free wheeling rear end has stability, there arnt to many people out there that can feel the rear tires of a truck break traction with the road surface in the rain on a curve.

good luck in the winter snow and ice storms.
