: Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller Install

The other day I installed my Prodigy brake controller in my truck. I
used a universal Dodge brake controller harness from Tractor Supply Co.
to hook it up to the brake controller, and had to run the wire for the
brakes from the back of the truck up front when I installed my 7-pin
connector (my truck didn't come with the towing package).

I ended up mounting my Prodigy in place of the factory ash tray. I
removed the ash tray and then bent a piece of 3/4" x 1/16" aluminum to
make a bracket, and drilled holes to allow screws to use the stock
Prodigy mounting holes, and then attach to a screw behind the ash tray
from the factory to mount it to the truck. I like this setup because
the Prodigy is easy to see and adjust, out of the way, and I didn't
have to drill any holes in the dashboard to mount it.

Here's a picture:

don't take this wrong, but why on earth did you mount it that way? It fit nicely on the knee pad and is very easy to access.

Because after having just spent some $31k on my new truck, I had (and continue to have) no desire whatsoever to drill holes in any part of my new dash, or any piece of the interior. Otherwise, I would've mounted it on the knee pad or on the very top of the dashboard.

I posted this on another forum as well and your reaction is similar to what some of the people on the other forum said. Got about 50/50.

At any rate, it was how I mounted it, and I knew it was different from how almost anyone else would mount it, so I thought I'd post to give others an idea of how else they could mount their brake controller if they so desired. To each his own.
