What is the purpose of the engine cover with the tubes on it for the lly? Can you remove it? I heard it was a turbo silencer, if so I want to take it off and really let that puppy screamhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

I actually went down to the hardware store and got a ABS tubing cap and plugged it. It did not make any difference in performance for me. But I was also running a AFE Stage II intake at the same time. I have not had any luck with the new intake. I replaced with the stock one and got my power back.

I replaced the 6.6 Duramax Diesel cover with a 2" fernco cap it is a rubber cap used for plumbing. I bought it at Home Depot for 2 or 3 bucks, fits perfectly. Engine noise is a little louder, a performance increase is probably small, but it is less area of intake material to get hot. I like it.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only
function of that cover is as a dead air space sound barrier to quiet
engine noise. No performance issues.

I don't know the actual functionality of the cover. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
However, could it possibly be a method of smoothing out the pulses of the incoming air stream, to give a better ramming effect to maximize volumetric efficiency at some beneficial towing or working rpm range? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
