My '00 3500HD has been blowing black smoke under acceleration (always carrying a heavy load)

At idle, should I see vacuum at the WG actuator shown in this pic, right now I have none.

I do have vacuum at the WG solenoid, shown in this pic

If the vacuum hose is good, then I should replace the WG solenoid?

Thanks in advance,

Pat

You should see about 25 in of vaccum from the pump. If you see that then chances are that your wastegate solenoid is bad probably like 95%. Or you could always do the manual wastgate mod as many others have.

Stick a vacuum gauge on the WG side and rev it up see any vacuum?
Or put a tee on and a long hose and go for a drive, is the WG able to hold or respond to vacuum?

Update,

Still smoking!

I changed out the WG solenoid and got vacuum to the WG actuator but it seemed low, so I picked up a vacuum guage to check it. I'm only getting 5" at the actuator and 10" to 20" at the Solenoid. The vacuum pump does have a slight sqeak to it when I hand turn it.

Replace the Pump? :banghead:
