I just bought a 2004 2500HD w/ a Duramax, the 0% for 72 mo. got me. I was lucky enough to come across your forum and have a question. I am almost half way to 500 miles should I have the oil changed before the recommended service during the break in?

I would/did. I changed mine at 1,000 miles.

I changed all my fluids at 500 miles. . . haven't had any problems yet at over 12,000. I changed everything again at the normal interval (would have changed at 3k, but I was travelling across country so it was pretty much impossible).

Congrats on the new ride. . . how about a picture in the 'Let's see what your ride looks like' thread. . . Welcome to an awesome source of knowledge and fun, the Diesel Place http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock On.gif. . .

On my 01 I did it and had the shop filter the oil from the rear end using a coffee filter. It was nice and clean but had small chunks of metal in it. I think it is money well spent to change all the fluids early.

I changed the engine oil/filter and differential lube at 500 miles. Checked the differential at about 50 miles and found it was very low and have since heard of other truck owners having a similar experience. Edited by: Bill Gisse

I changed my fluids at the same interval as LanduytG, a lubricant specialist! In my next life I will be one of those. It's worth the little bit of money it cost to ensure the best breakin for the LLY. I'm at 8500 miles now, will change to Mobil synthetic at 10k. Enjoy your truck, and welcome to the forum.
