I see on this site 2004.5, but I'm getting conflecting info. from the dealers. GMC & Chevy are saying earlier. What's Up! Also if I was to buy a pre LLY or LB7 what is a safe mileage engine to look at?

LLY started hitting lots in January or so. Its labeled as a .5 becuase the 04's were hitting lots in August.

Any mileage LB7 is fine on a maintained truck.

The LLY's had to be in all the trucks with Dmax engines by January 01, 2004 in order to comply with the latest Federal Emission controls for diesel engines. Those standards are also the reason for the release of the 6.0 PSD and the 600 Cummins.

I was trying to track it pretty close since mine got held up for the conversion to the LLY engine. As far as I know, the first LLY's started showing up on some dealer lots the last week of December 2003.

Mine showed up January 23, 2004 and was one of the first LLY's in this State. It even showed up a week before Edge's did...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

edit info:

As far as when they started building the engine, we have a member here who works in the Dmax plant in Moraine. He said they started building the engine December 10, 2003. So there is no way you'd have seen one before about the third week, and then Christmas shut down the plant for 10 days into the New Year.Edited by: Zeeb
