Well I have a new one....Lately I have been getting a Range Shift Inhibited on the DIC and it cuts the power and/or gears back significantly. Once I return to Park, the back into the gear everything is fine. It is an intermittent problem that started about 30 days ago. It has happened about 7 or 8 times now. It has happened when the truck was cold. It has happened when the truck was hot. It only happens right after startup and you put it into gear. Never while I have been driving it. Any Ideas on what is going on?????? My juice is on normally 3 sometimes 4. Help..........................Thanks

UPDATE:

Today it goes back to the dealer to get checked out. Last night I put it into drive, and it had a slight delay, then a big thud in the transmission. I shut the truck off, restarted and everything is fine. But the check engine light did come on right after the thud. I have 36,300 miles on it and the dealer said he would try to fix it under warranty. I thought the 100,000 mile warranty covered the whole power train?? But apparently, as I was told, just the engine was covered. The transmission shifts perfect and has no side affects after it freaks out, but the problem is becoming to frequent for me to ignore. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif

UPDATE #2

Truck stuck in 4th drove all they way 20 Miles back to dealer. He looks up the ses light code and it says Transmission shift control problem.....DUH!!! He replaces a Park sensor or something like that and says it has cured the problem. I drive the truck back to Boise and all is fine. Until I shut it off and restarted it......THUD! stuck in 4th gear again and another 20 Mile trip back to dealer. I assume that it is fourth because it's turning 2600RPM at 60 MPH. Any of you D/A techs have any ideas on the matter???? They said they will have to tear into the tranny tonight. It has to be an electronic malfunction as apposed to a mechanical one. When it works, it works perfect but when it don't...well...It just don't. The THUD of the 4th going in just plain scares me. If it's not mechanical now, it could soon be with this abrupt shift.....HELP

I had the exact same proplem with my 03. I took it to the dealer (Murdock Chev) in Bountiful UT and they read the computer and no codes were stored cause it would always reset with a shift to park and back to drive. They decided to put a code reader on the truck and let me drive it and every time that I would have the problem I was to push a button and that was suppose to store the fault. The Mech put the reader on it and the very next start it did its thing. Didn't even get it out of the service bay. They changed the speed sensor no help, the nsbu no help and reflashed the tmc. All no help. When he had the tech II on the truck he noticed that there was a voltage drop on the curcuit to the trans control of around 5-6 volts. He then looked for the power to that curcuit and discovered that the ignition switch was the problem. That switch is a three gang switch and one of the gangs controls power to the emc and tmc. The part that controls the tmc in that gang was the problem. Tell the tech to look for a voltage drop on start and shift from park to drive. It fixed my truck. Haven't had another problem. Trans also seems to shift smoother as well. Let me know how it turns out.

Denny,

YOU ROCK!!!! That was it. They had my truck for 5 days screwing with everything. Once I read your post, I e-mailed it to the dealer and whala......Truck is fixed. Thank you for getting me back on the road. If you are ever up in Idaho....Look me up, I'll buy you a cold one. Terry

P.S. Dealer covered everything under warrant with 36,300 miles on truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif.

Glad to help out a fellow westerner.. If we put our heads together we can do anything. If I am in your neck of the woods a cold one sounds good. Same invite to you. It will have to be Root Beer for me.
