yep, i checked the balance rates and thet were with in specs, the fuel pressure was bouncing between 3500 and 5500 while at idle. then it would jump upto 12-13000, it sounded like all hell was breaking loose. the pressure would move back down to 3500,5000 range and the noise stopped. there replacing the FPR monday...

Mine did the same right after I had the injectors replaced, took it back and sure enough the FPR was crapping out. It should be covered under warranty (at least mine was).

now that i think about it, there's a series of events that seem to lead up to the FPR crapping out. it first started as an odd noise when i started it, especially when it was cold. at the same time it started you could hear what sounded like valve's rattling for just an instant. then, after driving the truck a while when you would slow to a stop and the motor/trans would idle down you could hear the motor was a little louder. Like the idle chatter was more noticeable then it moved to the bucking/surging while at a stop light or just sitting there in park. Then yesterday 5-3-07 the surging was accompanied by what sounded like all hell breaking loose. Valve rattle that you could hear and feel. the EFI confirmed the fuel pressure was bouncing all over the place.

Isnt the fuel pressure regulator one of the items covered in the 5yr/100000 mile warranty? If so you shouldnt change it at all. Go to the dealer and pay the $100 deductable.

yes, still covered by the warranty... however... the PPE CP3, lift pump, turbo combo might give them someting to chuckle at. i had it changed today parts and labor $500.00. thanks to merchant automotive, they were the only ones i knew who had it in stock. she 2nd day aired it to me. locally it was a week to get. P.S. 1/2 the motor noise left with the new FPR

dont remember that one. my first BD turbo only lasted 2 weeks and died. put the new one then added the PPE CP3. when i changed the FPR it worked for a day then started bucking again. i called guy at socal diesel he suggested pulling the belt and running the truck w/o the cp3 inline. damm it ran smooth. the FPR that was bad was the one in the new cp3 pump. $500,00 for nothing.
