I currently have a Chev 1/2 ton 4WD with a 305 TBI that I haul a stock
car trailer with. The problem is it doesn't have the power to do the
job well. I'm thinking about getting a late 80's Suburban 4WD with a
6.2 or a 6.5 to haul with. I want to have plenty of power to haul and
still get decent fuel mileage when I not hauling the trailer.

What do you all think?

I would look for one with a turbo since you're looking for more power.

the Turbo 6.5 will be 1993 or newer. Older version's were not turbo motors

Nice thing about a stock 93, it's mechanical injection. . . no fussin' with electronics stuff if you want to stay completely shade tree mechanic on it. 94 and 95's first of electronics (get some history, there were some hiccups in the early years). 97+ better engine cooling.

Actually some trucks had the 6.5TD in 1992 also so both '92 & 93 had mechanical pumps. I would look for those years first then 1994 & 1995 next then 97-2000 after that. Just mnsho. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
